RULER AND TIME COMPUTING DEVICE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 578,149, dated March 2, 1897.

Application filed November 24, 1896. Serial No. 613,276. (No model.)

To a whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, MOSES ISAAOS, of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Rulers and Time-Computing Devices, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to devices for specifying the date upon which time-paper will mature; and the object is to provide such a device which is simple in its construction and which will show at a glance the due dates of time-paper, and, further, to so construct the device that it may be employed as a ruler.

I will describe a time-computing device enibodyin g my invention, and then point out the novel features in the appended claim.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a plan View of a device embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view, but showing the opposite side of the device. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section thereof; and Fig. 4 is a plan view of the device, drawn 011 an enlarged scale.

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a ruler. Extended longitudinally around this ruler is an endless tape 2, having printed upon it in suitable places the several months of a year and the dates of the days of each month.

In order to bring the tape 2 below or substantially flush with the surfaces of the ruler 1, I provide said ruler on its opposite side with longitudinal grooves, in which said tape moves, the end portions of the ruler being rounded, as indicated at 3, so that the tape may be easily moved by pressure. face of the ruler is provided with a settingmark a, and it is also provided at suitable ill- The surtervals with marks indicating different times for which due papers may be drawn.

In operation when it is desired to find the date upon which a note or similar paper'will fall due the drawing-date thereof, say February 1st, as indicated in the drawings, will be placed opposite the indicating-set. If it be a fifteen-day note, it will mature, as indicated, on February 16th. If it be a thirty-day note, it will mature, as indicated, on March 3d, the said 3d being opposite the mark indicating due in thirty days. Of course this system may be carried out to any desired extent. I have here shown it as including the maturity-date of a one-hunched-and-twentyday note or similar paper.

It is obvious that this device will be of great utility in banks or brokerage offices, and that owing to its simple construction it will not easily get out of order, and, furthermore, it will not only be useful for indicating the time of note maturity, but will be useful as a ruler.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Iatent A ruler longitudinally grooved on its opposite sides, and its ends transversely rounded, a setting-mark on the body of the ruler, other marks on the body portion indicating maturity-dates, and an endless band movable in the channels and extended around the rounded end portions, the said band having marked upon it the months of a year and the day dates of the month, and the said band being wholly exposed on the sides of the ruler, substantially as specified.
