Description

(No Model.)
G. DUSSAU. BOTTLE STOPPER.
No. 577,844. Patented Mar. 2, 1897.
Unirse STATES PATENT OFFICE..
GILBERT DUSSAU, OF TOULOUSE, FRANCE,
BOTTLE-STOPPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent No. 577,844, dated March 2, 1897. Application filed December 6, 1894. Serial No. 530,970. (No model.) Patented in I rance September 25,1893, No. 232,978.
To all whom t may concern:
Beit known that I, GILBERT DUssAU, a citizen of the French Republic, residing at Toulouse, France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-S toppers, (for which Letters Patent have been obtained in France, No. 232,978,dated September 25,1893,) of which the following is a full, clear, and eX- act description.
My invention relates to stoppers or closing devices for bottles, casks, barrels, dac., and among the objects in view is to provide a construction of stopper or closing device which is adapted to permit of the pouring of the liquid from a bottle, cask, or barrel, but prevent the relling of the same after a portion or all of the contents have been drawn out.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction,'arrangeinent, and combination of parts, as hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the drawings, and pointed outin the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure lis a sectional view illustrating my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the cap F. Fig. 3 is a like view of the disk D. Fig. 4 is a like view of the disk C. Fig. 5 is alike view of the valve.
Referring to the drawings, A indicates an annular body portion of the device, provided with a cork lining A, and having a iiange a', over which engages a collar or cylindrical section b, and in applying the device to a bottle the neck of the latter seats firmly between the section Z9 and the cork lining. The upper end of the body A is threaded exteriorly and receives a cap F.
Vithin the body A is seated a valve B, having supporting ears or abutments a, and a iiat stem B', which passes upwardly and loosely into a iiattened recess e in a central depending extension c of the cap F. Above the valve and having a central opening for the passage of the valve-stem is a disk O, having liquid-escape openings c, while above disk C is a firmly-seated disk D, and between the upper surface of the latter and the cap is a cork disk F'. The disk C is also provided with a notch c, which is adapted to bebrought in line with a perforation d in disk D, while said perforation is adapted to register with a perforation F7 in the cap F, whereby ingress of air to the interior of the bottle may occur during the pouring of the contents of the same.
The disk C is iirmly seated upon the stem of the valve, so that when the cap F is turned the disk will be turned simultaneously with the valve until the notch c will register with the perforation d, and in this position of the parts one of the openings c will register with the opening n of disk D, and the opening F2 will also register with the opening n. Thus air will iind entrance into the bottle through the alined opening F7, opening d, and notch c', while the contents of the bottle will find egress through alined openings om, F3, and Fi.l
By reason of the stern of the valve lying loosely Wi thin the extension e' said valve will, when the bottle is inverted, or partially so, move oft its seat to permit the liquid to iind free egress.
To limit the rotation of the cap in each direction, the disk D is provided with a segmental recess CZ, into which a projection F5 on the cap projects.
l. In a closing vdevice for bottles dec., the combination with a bodyv portion a cap rotatably mounted on said body portion and provided with an air-inlet and a liquid-escape opening, a valve loosely seated within the bodyportion, a disk arranged above the valve and adapted to be turned, said disk being provided with an air-inlet and a liquid-escape opening, and a second disk arranged immovablyT above the first disk and provided with an air-inlet, a liquid-escape opening, and a stop or guide opening, and a projection on the rotatable cap projecting Within said guideopening all arranged forcoperation as described.
2. In a closing device for stoppers &c., the
combination with a body portion threaded at its upper end and a cork lining surrounding its lower end, of a valve having an upwardlyprojecting stem, a disk arranged above the valve and having air-inlet and liquid-escape openings, said disk being firmly mounted on the valve-stem, a second disk arranged iin- Inovably above the iirst disk and provided.
with air-inlet and liquid-escape openings and IOO a guide-openingaoap sereWing upon the body In testimony that I claim the foregoing I portion and having air-inlet and liquid-eshave hereunto set my hand this 24th day of cape openings, a depending shank having a September, 1894.
