Description

Unirnn STATES ATENT Prion.
CRISDOF F. NEUBERT, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
SLOT-MACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 577,691, dated February 23, 1897.
Application iiled December 26, 1896. Serial No. 617,072. (No model.)
.To a/ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ORIsDoF F. NEUBERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Slot-Machines, .of which the following is a specilication.
My improvement in slot-machines consists of a pendulum which operates in conjunction with the merchandise-tube holder, the obj ect being to guard the coin guide or channel for the purpose hereinafter described. I attain this object by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of the pendulum; Fig. 2, a perspective view of the pendulum and the lower part of a merchandisetube holder.
Similar letters referto similar parts in both views.
In Fig. l the cross-piece F., the arms B B, the body A, with its sides C C, and the proj ec tions D D constitute the pendulum. The cross-piece E is connected to one side of the merchandise-tube holder R, as shown in Fig. 2. The cross-piece E gives connection to the arms B B, by means of which the pendulum swings. The projections D D enter the merchandise-tube hold er R and merchandise-tube through long narrow openings F F for the purpose hereinafter described.
The pendulum hangs in a perpendicular positionl on one side of the merchandise-tube holder R, its projections D D having entered the merchandise-tube and tube-holder R through the openings F F, until the merchandise-tube and tube-holder R are iilled with parcels of merchandise, when the latter will push the projections D D out of the merchandise-tube and tube-holder R,whereby the pendulum is swung out of its perpendicular po sition, as shown in Fig. 2, and the coin guide or channel W is automatically opened to admit the coin. The pendulum will remain in this position, with its projections D D resting against the parcels of merchandise, which block the openingsF F from within the merchandise-tube and tube-holder R until all parcels of merchandise have been removed out of the merchandise-tube and tube-holder R. The openings F F being then no longer barred will again permit the projections D D to enter the merchandise tube and tubeholder R,thus allowing the pendulum to swing and gradually cover the upper orifice of the coin guide or channel W with one of its sides C C until the coin guide or channel W is completely closed and the pendulum hangs once more in a perpendicular position.
From the above it will be seen that a coin can enter the slot and coin guide or channel WV as long as there are parcels of merchandise in the merchandisetube and tube-holder R, but as soon as all parcels of merchandise are removed from the latter the coin can enter the slot only, being prevented from entering and rolling down into the coin guide or channel W by the pendulum, and the coin can again be taken out of the slot by its depositor.
Vhat I do claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a slot-machine the combination of a. pendulum having a body A having sides C, C, projections D, D, and arms B, B, swinging from a cross-piece E, and operating in conjunction with a merchandise-tube holder R, having openings F F and a coin guide or channel W, all substantially as set forth.
