IM'PROVEM ENT IN PLOWS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 57,74S,vdated September 4, 1866.

To all whom 'it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN MGKINLEY, of Bethesda, in the county of Belmont and State of Ohio, have Vinvented a lnew and Improved Plow; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

My invention consists ofa new and improved point for a plow, capable of being used a very great length of time without 4becoming unserviceable by the wearingoi'of the under side, as I provide against this by making the point of suoh a form that it may be used in eight different positions, thus equalizingthe wear on the several sides of the point g also, in the combination of the said point with the moldboard, share, and eolter, in the manner hereinafter specified.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a side elevation of my improved plow. Fig. 2 is a view oi' the point detached from the plow.

The point e is made of wrought iron or steel, or other suitable material, and in form resembles two sharp pyramids with theirI axes in the same straight line and bases toward eaeh other, and eonneeted by a short square bar. In the sides of these pyramids, near their bases,

are slots, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. In one o1Ll these slots, l, the foot of the eolter is inserted, and in the other, 2, the forward end of the share. The point e is secured to theplow by the bolt g, which passes through the moldboard and in Contact with one side of the bar 3, and the nut is then screwed down, holding it firmly in a ree-ess made to receive it between the mold -board ce and the land-side of the plow. The point e may, however, be secured in its place in any other way deemed best.

When the lower side of that end ofthe point e which is in use becomes worn, the point is taken oft' and turned over or reversed, so as to bring another side to the work in place of the 011e so worn. It will readily be seen that this ohange can be made in eight different ways, thus adding materially to the durability ofthe point, as well 'as keeping it in mueh better order than suoh points are now kept.

Having thus fully described my invention, I claiml. The point e, constructed substantially as described.
