\VALTON DUANE SMITH, OEPROPIIETSTOIVN, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- .IIATJF TO FRED L. ADAMS, OF SAME PLACE.
MARKING-TAG FOR ROLLED GOODS.
SPEGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 576,234, dated February 2, 1897. Application filed June 26, 1896. Serial No. 597,046. (No lTlOtlBl-l To all Ll/7min it may OOH/(1877b:
Be it known that I, WALTON DUANE SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Prophetstown, in the county of Whiteside and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Marking-Tag for Rolled Goods, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to marking-tags for rolled'goods. ro The main and primary object of the invention is to provide a simple, cheap, and easilyapplied marking-tag attachment of the character noted which when applied to the core or bobbin board of a roll of textile goods can- 1 5 not be accidentally detached, and while capable of being readily adjusted to View at any time is ordinarily entirely'out of the way.
WVith this and other objects in view, which will readily appear as the nature of the in- 2o vention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated, and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a roll of textile goods equipped with the improved marking-tag attachment. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the core-board with the attachment in position. Fig. 3 is a detail in perspective of the tag attachment re- 0 moved from the core-board. Fig. 4 is a perspective View of the reverse side of the attachment. Fig. 5 is a plan view of the flexible paster-body of the attachment. Fig. 6 is a similar View of the slidable marking-card of 3 5 the attachment.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the ordinary core or roll board of a roll or bolt of textile goods, (designated by the numeral 2,) and it is customary to connect 0 with such rolls or bolts of goods suitable tags indicating the price, &c., of the goods, and the present inventioncontemplates a tag attachment of this character adapted to be fastened to the core-board 1.
The tag attachment for use in connection with the core-board 1 comprises a flexible paster-body 3 and a slidable marking-card at, on which card is marked the price of the goods and the other'usual data relating to quality, number of yards, &c. The flexible paster-body 3 is preferably formed of a blank of paper or other suitable flexible material and is made in a rectangular form or other shape and in suitable sizes as may be required. The flexible paster-body 3 is provided' therein with a pair of spaced parallel longitudinal guide slits 5, which extend nearly the entire length of the paster-body, and said body is further provided near one end with a single transverse slit 6, extending 6o nearly the entire width of the body and formin g a guide-loop 7, which loosely receives the marking-card 4:, which is of a narrower width than the pastor-body to which it is slidably connected. 6 5 The narrow marking-card 4 is provided at opposite sides near its inner end with reentrant cuts or notches 8, forming at the inner end of the card a T-head 9, provided with the short oppositely-disposed lateral slip tongues or wings 10, which slidably project through and work Within the parallel longitudinal slits 5 of the flexible pester-body. The combined length of the slip tongues or wings 10 does not exceed the width of the card 4:, and the formation of these tongues or wings requires no extra material, which is quite an important advantage in the economical manufacture of the attachment, and the cuts or notches 8, forming the T-head 9, receive therein the opposite side portions of the paster-body, so as to allow the tongues or wings 10 to project through the slits 5 and work at the under or reverse side of the paster-body.
The connection of the cardawith the pasterbody 3 allows the card to be readily moved inward and outward, and to facilitate the inward and outward adjustment of the cardthe same has attached to its outer end thereof, by means of an eyelet 11, a pull tape or tab 12, go which can be readily grasped between the fingers when it is desired to pull the card out from within the goods to inspect the marks thereon, but in place of the eyelet 11 the pulltape may be fastened to the card 4 by any 5 other suitable fastening means.
To provide for attaching the paster-body to the core-board 1, the said body is provided on the reverse side of its central portion, between the slits 5 and at one end, with an adhesive IOO coating 13, which when dampened provides means for securely pasting or securing the attachment 011 the core-board. In applying the attachment to a roll of goods the folds of the goods are parted away from the core-board, so that the paster-body, after moistening the coating 13, may be inserted between the goods and the board. The attachment is inserted between the goods until the extreme outer end of the marking-card comes flush with the end of the goods, and by then pressing or striking sharply on the goods immediately above the paster-body the latter Will be made to firmly adhere to the core-board of the roll.
From the foregoing it is thought that the construction and use of the foregoing attachment will be apparent without further description, and it will be understood that changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to with out departing from the principal or sacri- [icing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus described the invention, What is claimed, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is
1. In a marking-tag attachment for roll goods, a flexible pastor-body provided with guide-slits and on one side with an adhesive or gum coating, and a movable marking-card slidably engaging with the guide-slits of said pastor-bod y, substantially as set forth.
2. In a marking-tag attachment for roll goods, a flexible paster-body provided with a pair of spaced parallel longitudinal guideslits, a single transverse slit near one end and an adhesive or gum coating on one side, and a narrower marking-card sliding through the transverse slit of the paster-body and having at opposite sides, near its inner end, reentrant cuts forming a T-head, Which head is provided with short oppositely-disposed lateral tongues or Wings slidably projecting through said longitudinal slits, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
WALTON DUANE SMITH.
