IMPROVED APPARATUS FOR STEAMING VEGETABLES, 800.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 57,577, dated August 28, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERRMAN S. SARoNI, of Marietta, in the county of Washington and State of Ohio, have invented a new and use ful Apparatus for Steaming Vegetables and other Articles, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which makes part of this specification, and which is a vertical central section through an apparatus embracing my improvement.
In vessels for cooking by steam as ordinarily constructed the Water of condensation flows back into the boiler charged with all the impurities of the cooking articles. The water of condensation, and discharging the condensed water by a separate duet into another vessel, and thus keep the boiler clean. To do this, as shown in the accompanying drawing, I introduce the steam from the boiler (which may be located in any suitable position) into the steam-chamber A, through a pipe, B, provided with a hood, 0, so supported above the pipe as to permit the escape of the steam, while preventing the entrance of the water of condensation falling from above.
The articles to be steamed are contained within a vessel, D, resting upon the steamehamber, and having a perforated or grated bottom for the passage of the steam. The water of condensation falls to the bottom of the steam-chamber, and escapes through the pipe E into any desired receptacle. The water in the boiler is thus kept pure and clean.
It is obvious that more than one pipe or hood might be used if desired. My apparatus might also be used as a condenser for converting salt into fresh water, or for other analogous purposes.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, a steaming apparatus having one or more apertures, each or all of them covered with a hood, as above described, connecting with a boiler for the admission of steam, and a separate pipe for the escape of the water of condensation.
