Description

UNITED TATEs PATENT OFFICE.
W. F. QUINBY, or WILMINGTON, DELAWARE.
IMPROVED BLACKING.
' Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 57,567, dated August 28, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, W. F. QUINBY, of WiL 'mington, New Castle county, State of Delaware, have invented a new and lmproxed Blacking Compound; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same.
The present invention relates to a new and useful compound for a blacking for the polishing of boots, shoes, 850.; and it consists of the following ingredients mixed together in about the proportions stated, viz: four parts of cord dust, made by grindin or otherwise reducing coal to a finely powdered or pulverized state, and one part of treucle or molasses, which coaldust and treacle are thoroughly mixed together, a sufficient quantity of water being added to enable the compound to be worked up into the form of a paste suitable for being used for the blacking and polishing of boots and shoes, and other articles to which it may be adapted or applicable, a hlacking compound thus being' produced which is not only cheap, but exceedingly efficacious and desirable.
Although certain proportions have been herein stated, in which the ingredients composing my improved blacking compound are mixed together, I do not intend to limit myself to the precise proportions named, as they may be somewhat varied nor do I intend to limit myself to the use of molasses or treacle with the coald'ust, as many other substances may be employed in lieu thereof, to reduce it to a pasty state or condition.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A blaclzing composed of the within ingredients, in the manner and about the proportion substantially as described.
