GLOBE OR SHADE HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 575,063, dated January 12, 1897.
Application filed May 11, 1895.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ELLIOTT P. GLEASON, a citizen of the United States, residing in New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Globe or Shade Holders, of which the following is so full, clear, and exact a description as will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a top View of my improved holder. Fig. l is a section of Fig. 1 on the line a: 00. Fig. 2 shows a split in the end of the open ring. Fig. 3 shows the ring with split end open. Fig. 4 shows the screw for operating the open ring and a removable collar on the screw. Fig. 5 shows a collar solid on the screw.
The object of my invention is to produce a holder which shall be adjustable to sockets of varying sizes in such a manner that the globe or shade will be held firmly in position with respect to the light.
Another object of my invention is to construct a globe or shade holder with a ring which shall clamp the socket from opposite sides with the same pressure and one which shall snugly fit the socket throughout its entire circumference without leaving any space between the ring on the holder and the socket.
Another object of my invention is to provide an adjusting device by the manipulation of which both portions of the severed ring are moved toward the socket simultaneously or away from the socket simultaneously as the, adjusting device is operated in one direction or the other.
In the accompanying drawings, A designates the main ring or seat for the globe or shade. B designates an adjustable open ring having projecting free ends through which extends a screw 0, the outer end of which is screwthreaded to correspond with screwthreads in the bent portion D of the adjustable ring. The screw is provided with a collar E, which, as shown in Fig. 5, is screwed onto the screw, and which, as shown in Fig. 6, is formed integral with the screw. necessity of putting on the removable collar.
In Fig. 1 I have shown this open ring as extending through the main body portion of the globe or shade holder and having a T- shaped projection extending down through a lateral slot in the main portion of the ring which holds the globe or shade.
It is obvious that the exact details and form of the elements shown and described need not be strictly adhered to, as they may be Varied at will without departing from the spirit of my invent-ion, which consists in the construction and combination of parts,as will be hereinafter claimed.
The arms d, which connect the globe-holder with the clamping-ring for the socket, are to be one or more in number, and are to be secured in any manner desirable.
