- A. SOHEID.
SPINDLB.
WITNESSES: INVENTOH: W Adam Sckec'd B M ATTY'S.
UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
ADAM SOHEID, OF HARRISON, NEWV JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO THE SAWYER SPINDLE COMPANY, OF PORTLAND, MAINE.
SPINDLE'.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 574,950, dated January 12, 1897.
Application filed November 17, 1896. Serial No. 612,519. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ADAM SCHEID, a citizen of the United States, residing in Harrison, Hudson county, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Im provements in Spindles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawing, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which forms a part of this specification.
The object of my present invention is to provide a spinning-spindle with a support whereby yielding movement is given to said spindle and which yielding movement is easil y controlled and regulated.
The invention consists in the improved spindle-support and in the combination and arrangement of the various parts thereof, substantially as will be herein after more fully described and finally embodied in the clauses of the claim.
In the drawing, which represents a front elevation, partly in section, of my improved spindle-support, a represents the spindle-rail, provided with a vertical circular hole a, which is penetrated by the tube 1), containing step and bolster bearing and having a diameter slightly smaller than the diameter of the hole a. The tube 1) is provided with an annular flange c, resting on the elastic washer d, arranged on the rail, and is also provided below the rail or with a substantially triangular groove forming on said tube an upright cone 7t, adapted to be engaged by the setscrew m, which latter is horizontally arranged in the ring or collar h. Said collar is loose on said tube and bears on an intermediate elastic washer 2', all as clearly shown in the drawing.
The spindle e is arranged in the tube 1) and is provided with the sleeve f and whirl g, by means of which motion is imparted to the said spindle.
From the foregoing it can be seen that the tube containing step and bolster bearing for the spindle e is flexibly mounted on the rail a and is held therein by the ring or collar h, which latter is adj ustably secured on the tube 1), the set-screw m engaging the incline or upright cone is, arranged in said tube. By simply adjusting the said set-screw the flexibility is regulated without disturbing the locking mechanism, that is to say, while the screw is being adjusted it remains in engagement with the incline and thus prevents a withdrawal of the tube.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure byLetters Patent, is
1. The combination with the spindle-rail, of a tube containing step and bolster bearing flexibly mounted on said rail and provided below said rail with a substantially triangular groove forming on said tube an upright cone, a ring or collar 011 said tube and over said groove, a set-screw in said ring or collar and engaging said cone, and a whirl-driven spindle in the tube, all said parts, substantially as and for the purposes described.
2. The combination with the spindle-rail, of a tube containing step and bolster bearing flexibly mounted on said rail and provided below said rail with a substantially triangular groove forming on said tube an upright cone, a ring or collar on said tube and over said groove, an elastic washer between said collar and the rail, a set-screw in said ring or collar and engaging the cone of the tube, and
a whirl-driven spindle in the tube, all said parts, substantially as and for the purposes described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 14th day of October, 1896.
ADAM SOHEID,
Witnesses WM. D. BELL, ALFRED GARTNEE.
