MUSIC-BOOK HOLDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 574,869, dated January 12, 1897.

Be it known that I, RINALDO ALDEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waukegan, in the county of Lake and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Music- Book Holder, of which the following is a speciication.

My invention relates to music-book holders which are to be attached to the portable musical instruments used in bands, and the 0bject of my invention is to provide a musicbook holder which is an improvement on the one patented in Letters Patent No.l 244,512, dated July 19, 1881, to R. Alden, consisting of a device to prevent the weakening or breaking of the spring-arms when the music-book holder is in use. I attain this object by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which the figure is a rear view of the music-book holder.

Through the block m, which moves vertically upon the rod ce and which is provided lwith the set-screw s, is passed the spring-arm wire CZ d. It has been found in practice that the springarms d CZ and e @are apt to weaken and break o unless provided with the link and spring coils shown. I

The use of the link g for the upper arm and passing the wire through the block m, as shown in the drawing, for the lower, and not through the block in a line perpendicular to the standard, prevent the arms from turning after they become worn from use.

I am aware that prior to my invention music-book holders have been made with fixed and sliding arms upon a vertical rod, as shown in the Alden patent of July 19, 1881. Hence I do not claim these features broadly.

That I do claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

In a music-book holder in combination with the rod a, and sliding block m, the bent arms d, d, and e, e, provided with the springs d', df, e', e', and link g, substantially as shown.
