Description

G. A. BEARD.
. Plow.
No. 57,463. Patented Aug. 28, 1866.
izew g NVPETERS. FHOTO-UTHOGRAPMER, WASHINGTON u C if y UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
" GEORGE A. BEARD, OF OAVETOWN, MARYLAND.
IMPROVEMENT IN MOLD-BOARDS FOR PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 57,463, dated August 28, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE A. BEARD, of Gavetown,in the county of Washington, in the State of Maryland, haveinvented an Improvement to the Mold-Board of the Plow; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the acconpanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in the elevation and enlargement of the mold-board of the plow, so as to prevent choking when plowing among briars, weeds, and tall grass; also, to more thoroughly and completely turn the furrow, and throwing all the ground loosened clean over, not permitting any to fall over the top of the mold-board into the furrow behind the plow.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my. invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
I construct my plow in any of the known forms of the plow. The mold-board is extended and continued as high as the collar on which the beam rests. Said elevation is symmetrically carried back to the heel of the moldboard, so as to make the top or upper edge of the same range flush with the bottom of the beam, and then gradually and symmetrically slope backward until it terminates behind and beyond the handle higher than the top of the beam.
Figure 1 is a representation of a plow with my mold-board.
Fig. 2 is a represention of a plow with the moldboard of the ordinary height.
Fig. 3 is a representation of the mold-board. Letter a is the collar on which the beam rests. Letter b is the body of themold-board. Letters 6,61, 6, and f show the elevation and extension, as described and claimed above.
Fig. 4 is a representation of a mold-board as ordinarily made, by way of contrast.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The elevation and enlarged extension of the mold-board of the plow, as described above, and nothing else or more.
GEORGE A. BEARD.
