Description

J. GEORGE.-
Plow. A
No. 41.294. l Patented Apr. 1s, 1865,
v Inl/erzhl? UNITED STATES APATENT OFFICE.
IMPROVEMENT IN PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 47,294, dated April 18, 1865.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JosEPH GEORGE, of the town of Springfield, in the county of Greene, in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, referencebeinghad to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l represents a right-hand side view of the plow complete. Fig. 2shows a land-side view of the same with the plowshare detached. Fig. 3 shows two sizes of the plowshare, with mold-board and landside all constructed in one piece, itted to one stock.
The object of my invention is to make one stock answer the purpose for all the sizes, from a. large two-horse plow down to a small bulltongue. l
My invention consists in the construction of a curved bar of iron, which forms the colter, and to which various sizes of the working portion ot' a plow may be tted, so as to be easily changed, the landside, mold-board, and plowshare being all made together, so that by removing three bolts any size desired maybe placed on and secured to the stock, making a complete plow for any purpose.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will describe it in detail, referring to the drawings and to the letters marked thereon.
The beam A, the handles a a, and the back brace, b, are framed together and shaped much after the usual manner, and may be made of wood or metal.
To the beam A and back brace, b, is bolted i the curved bar B, the forward edge being beveled oft' to give it a proper inclination to it the plowshare and mold-board O, which has a bolt, c, through it, near the upper edge, to secure it to a flange, d, made on the curved bar B, which has also at its lower portion a brace, e, the heel of which is bolted to the back` brace, b.;
The landside D is made with the plowshare and mold-board, and is fastened to the brace e by two Hush-headed bolts,ff, so that it is only necessary to turn` off three nuts, and any sized point and mold-board that is tted to the colter-bar B can be instantly placed on and secured by the bolts f f and the bolt c, so that one stock is all that is necessary for every size plow that is required for practical use. Thus it Will be seen that any farmer can have a Variety of plows with a little additional cost, and can at anytime, in the eld, replace the working part ot' his plow in case the point should get broken or be too dull for his purpose, and thus effect a great savingof time in the season of plowing. Noris this all, i'or a plow constructed i in the manner above described is much more substantial and will be more durable than most others which are differently constructed.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
rEhe curved colter-bar B, it having a heel, e, secured to the back brace, b, and beam A, as described,in combination with the landside D and mold-board C, they forming plowshares ot various sizes to be itted on one stock, the same being secured and operated substantially in the manner herein set forth.
JOSEPH GEORGE.
