SPECIFICATION formng part of Letters Patent NO. 574,546, dated January 5, 1897. Application filed December 23, 1895. Serial No. 572,990. (No model.)

Be it known 'that I, CHARLES B. LA'WLOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the County of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Impro vements in Money Wrappers and Counters and Ido herebydeclare the following to be a full, clear, and eXaot description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This inventionrelates to money wrappers and counters, but more particularly to those employed for coins of various siZes and denominations.

The primary object of my invention is to provide a wrapper or holder for coins which shall be adapted to hold a predetermined number of coins of a given value, which may be readily placed therein and easily removed therefrom, the coins being thus put up in concealed paokages to any desired number, each of the same value, so that in oounting out greater values' it is not necessary to count the individual coins, such packages being also well adapted for Shipping or transportation through the mails.

Otherobjects are to provide a wrapper and counter which shall be simple and ineXpensive in construction and neat and attractive in appearance, and to provide means whereby the coins may be readily inserted into and retained within the wrapper or removed therefrom when desired.

A further object is to provide wrappers which may be of various siZes according to the value and size of the coins which it is designed to contain, and which may be made of any suitable material, so as to adapt the Same for various uses or for reuse, if desired, instead of destroying Or throwing the same away after a single use, as has heretofore been the practice.

With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction and combination of the several parts, substantially as hereinafter more particularly described, and indicated in the Claims at the end of the description.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, 'forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspeotive view of a wrapper and holder embodyingthe invention and having the cover partly open so as to eXpose its eXteriOr. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view illustrat ing the position of the cover after the insertion of the coins. Fig. 3 is a detail perspeotive view of the outer member or holder of the wrapper, and Fig. 4 is a detail perspeotive view of the cover or rotary member.

In the drawings, A may designate a wrapper and counter of any suitable material, preferably comprising an outer member Or holder a and a rotary member or cover a'. The outer member or holder a may have the cylindrical end pieces or disks (L2 provided with the outer casing (L partially surrounding said disks, so as to permit the ready insertion into or the removal of the coins or other ol)- jects from said holder. These disks may have the pivots G4, upon the inner portions of which are rotatably held the end pieces CL of the cover or member Ct', in order that the said cover may be caused to pass Within the casing or holder CL when it is desired to insert or remove the coins and to permit the cover to be rotated sufficiently to close the open portion of the holder, so as to Conceal and retain the coins within the wrapper for transportation or other purposes.

The pivots C0 01"' the holder are preferably slightly eccentrically arranged, so that the forward edge of the body portion C66 of the Cover may abut and form a flush joint with the casing C0 when inclosing the coins within the holder, though, of course, the said pivots may be located centrally of the disks, if so desired.

A catch or handle of any suitable form may be secured or otherwise provided on the body portion of the cover, so as to permit the said cover to be readily rotated on the pivots (L and said handle or catch may be made of a piece of cord or wire CL which is passed through and suitably secured to the cover 'in Order to form an Outwardly-projecting loop thereou. This handle or catch may engage a knob orother suitable device CLS, (shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2,) arranged upon the casing C0 for the purpose of seouring the cover to the holder, so as to prevent the rotation of said cover while holding the wrapper.

The nianner of using the invention will be readily understood from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.

If a wrapper of the proper Size, adapted to hold a predetermined value and number of coins, is held in the left hand, by rotating the cover a' 011 the pivots (L toward the left an opening is provided by which the coins may be readily inserted into the wrapper. If now the holder is held stationary, the user may with his right hand, by means of the handle or eatch (L rotate the cover in the opposite direction, and the coins being thus inclosed within the wrapper the said catch Or handle may be made to engage the stud, sta-plc, or other device CL and fasten ed thereto, in order that the coins may be retained within the wrapper. By rotating the cover into position to permit the insertion of the coins, as

hereinbefore described, the coins may be readily removed. I thus provide a wrapper or counter of simple construction, which may be employed to hold coins of any desired siZe and number, and which may be used for transportation Or other purposes, and will readily indicate the amount or value of the coins contaiued therein.

It is obvious that the wrapper and counter may be made in any preferred manner and of any suitable material, according to the purpose for which it is to be used, and that any suitable clasp Or securing device may be employed for securing the cover to the holder. Instead of the end pieces a being in the form of disks,they may be simply radially-arranged arms, which may be attached in an y preferred manner to the disks or end pieces (L of the holder (t.

In some instances 1 may provide indicator mal-ks or scales along either or both of the abutting edges of the cover or member (b and the holder CL', in order to ascertain at a glance the exact number of coins contained in the wrapper when the cover is partlyorentirely open and when there are not sufficient coins in said wrapper to fill the same.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to Secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-

1. As an article of manufacture a combined wrapper and counter for coins, comprising a semicylindrical Coin-holder, having at each end thereof a disk or end piece rigidl y secured thereto; said holder only partially surrounding said disks, so as to provide an opening for the insertion of the coins, and a semicylindrical portion or cover for closing said opening fitting snugly Within said holder and also provided Wi th end pieces or disks arranged to rotate in the plane of the disks of the holder; the end pieces of the holder being provided with pivots on their inner surfaces on which the end pieces of the inner member or cover are pivotally supported; said inner portion being adapted to rotate within the outer portion in frictional contact thcrewith, substan tially as described. l

2. As an article of manufacture a Coin-container composed entirely of paper and consisting of a semicylindrieal Coin-holder, having at each end thereof a disk or end piece rigidly secured thcreto; said holder only partially surrounding said disks, So as to provide an opening for the insertion of the coins, and a semicylindrical portion or cover for closing Said opening fitting sn ugly within said holder and also provided With end pieces or disks arranged to rotate in the plane of the disks of the holder; the end pieces of the holder being provided With pivots on their inner surfaces on which the end pieces of the inner member or cover are pivotally supported; said inner port/ion being adapted to rotate Within the outer portion in frictional contact therewith, and means for securing the cover to the holder, substantially as described.

3. In a wrapper and counter for coins and the like, the combination With a holder comprising disks Or end pieces, and a casing partially surrounding the same, of a cover or member provided With end pieces ecccntricallypivoted to theinner surfaces of said disks so as to pass within the holder when rotatcd in one direction and to inclose the open portion of said holder when moved in the opposite direction,together Wi th a handie arranged upon said cover, whereby the coins inay bc readily inserted into and retained within the holder Or removed therefrom, substantially as described.
