Be it known that I, ED WIN MOCHESNEY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mucilage-Bottles, of which the following is a specification, ref erence being had to the accompauyingdrauings, forming a part thereof, in which similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts wherever found throughout both views.

This invention relates to mucilage-bottles; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class in which the neck thereof is formed so as to prevent the mucilage from collecting and drying thereon, and which may be easily cleaned of any m ucilage that may in the operation thereof from any cause collect thereon, a further object being to provide a mucilage-bottle the upper portion and neck of which are detachable and composed of White-metal silver-plated and finished so as to preventthe mucilage from adhering thereto; and with these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompa nying drawings form a part, in Which- Figure 1 is a central vertical section of my improved mucilage-bottle, and Fig. 2 a bottom plan View of the upper portion and the neck thereof.

In the practice of my invention I provide a bottle which comprises a bottom portion 5, which is made of glass and ground smooth, and which is preferably circular in form and elliptical in central vertical section, and provided With a central annular chamber (5.

The bottom portion 5 or the upper part thereof is cut away down tothe. transverse center thereof, as shown at 7, and formed at the base of the cut-away portion is an inwardly-directed annular groove 8, and at the opposite sides thereof are formed angular spaces 9, which are shown in full lines in Fig. 2 and in dotted lines in Fig. 1, and which communicate with said annular groove.

The upper portion of the bottle consists-of a hollow or cup-shaped cap or top 10, which is adapted to fit over the cut-away portion of the body 5, and which is provided at its lower edge with inwardly directed shoulders or projections 11, which-are adapted to enter the vertical spaces 9 When the upper portion or cap is passed over the body portion,and when the shoulders or projections 11 have reached the annular groove 8 by giving the said cap or upper part a slight turn the said parts will be securely locked together.

Formed in the upper part of the body portion around the central chamber 6 is an annular groove 12, in which is placed a packing-ring 13, of rubber or similar material, and the upper part or cap is also provided with a neck 14, which is conical in form and the inner walls of which are also conical in form, being directed outwardly-and downwardly at an angle of about forty-five degrees, and at the lower end of the neck is an annular depending flange 15, which incloses the packing-ring 13, and formed in the outer Wall of too neck is an annular space 16, whereby a vertical Wall is formed, above which the neck is inwardly contracted and conical in form, and the outer and inner Walls being brought together to form an annular edge 17.

The upper portion or cap is made of white-metal silver-plated, and the inner surfaces or Walls of the neck are preferably satinfinished, so as to prevent the mucilage from adhering thereto when brought in contact therewith, and I also provide a removable cap or stopper 18, which is also circular in form, and which is provided with an inwardlydirected flange or rim 19 at the bottom thereof, which fits 'within the annular space 16, as clearly shown in Fig. 1, and said cap or stopper is made of pearl or rubber, and is provided with a verticaltubular handle 20, which is closed at thetop and provided with a knob 2l,'and the brush 22 is provided with a handle 23, of tulip-wood, the upper portion of which is cylindrical in form and adapted to be inserted into the tubular handle 20, and said upper cylindrical portion is split longitudinally, as shown "at 24, so as to provide sufficient friction in the tubular handle to retain the handle of the brush therein.

This device is well adapted to accomplish the result for which it is intended, and my improved mucilage-bottle is flat on the bottom and preferably made of considerable thickness, so as to give weight thereto, and the same cannot be easily broken, and the cap or upper part 10 thereof maybe removed whenever desired for cleaning and other purposes, and the neck or inner walls thereof may also be cleaned at any time if any mucilage should dry thereon without removing said cap or cover, the central circular opening at the upper end of the neck being much larger than usual, so as to permit of this operation.

Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A mucilage-bottle, composed of a body portion, which is circular in form in crosssection, and which is provided with a detachable top or cover, which extends downwardly thereover to near the middle thereof, said cap being provided with a neck which is conical in form, and the outer wall of which is provided with an annular space, whereby a vertical wall-is formed, and a cap or stopper which is circular in form, and provided with an annular bottom, which is adapted to fit over said vertical wall, said cap being provided with a central vertical tubular handle, and a m ucilage-brush provided with ahandle, which is adapted to be inserted thereinto, substantially as shown and described.

2. A mucilage-bottle, composed of abody portion, which is circular in form in crosssection, and which is provided with a detachable top or cover, which extends downwardly thereover, to near the middle thereof, said cap being provided with a neck, which is conical in form, and the outer wall of which is provided with an annularspace, whereby a vertical wall is formed, and a cap or stopper, which smear is circular in form, and provided with an ann ular bottom, which is adapted to fit over said vertical wall, said cap being provided with a central vertical tubular handle, and a mucilage-brush provided with a split handle, which is adapted to beinserted thereinto, and said top portion .or cap being composed of white-metal silver-plated and said cap or stopper being composed of pearl, substantially as shown and described.

3. A mucilage-bottle, composed of a body portion which is circular in form in crosssection, and which is provided with a detachable top or cover, which extends downwardly thereov'er to near the middle thereof, said cap being provided with a neck which is conical in form, and the outer wall of which is provided with an annular space, whereby a vertical wall is formed, and a cap or stopper which is circular in form, and provided with an annular bottom, which is adapted to fit over said vertical wall, said cap being provided with a central vertical tubular handle, and a mucilage-brush provided with a split handle. which is adapted to be inserted thereinto, and the body portion being provided at its upper side with an annular groove, in which is placed a packing-ring which is inclosed by an annular flange formed on the neck, substantially as shown and described.
