DISPLAY-BOX COVER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 573,661, dated December 22, 1896.

'Coversg and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. 1

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in display-box covers, and especially to a cover which is adjustable and removably detachable and capable of adjustment to hold crackers, cookies, the., of various thicknesses snugly against a glass covering.

A further purpose of the present invention is to provide a display-top made of sections, which are hinged together along adjacent longitudinal edges, the hinges being mounted on a support which is detachably held to the box in any suitable manner, thus rendering my invention a temporary top capable of adjustment and attachment to different boxes when the box carrying the top has been emptied of its contents.

To these ends and to such others as the invention may pertain the same consists, further, in the novel construction, combination, and adaptation of the parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described and then specically deiined in the appended claims.

I clearly illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, and in which drawings similar letters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views, in which- Figure l is a top plan view of the displaybox cover. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line 2 2 of Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view. Fig. 4 is a detail View showing the adjustingscrew. Fig. 5 is a detail view showing the hinge and manner of attachment to the box.

Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A represents the casing of the display-top, which is provided with a glass covering B and carries the anglescrews C, secured one at the middle portion of each end strip at the ends and sides of the casing. The free ends of each angle-screw are provided with threads, and an adjustingscrew D works on each screw.

A suitable board E is provided to hold the crackers, cookies, or whatever article is to be displayed snugly against the glass covering. This board is provided with notches e, so as to allow the board to be placed over the screws, and when in place the end of the screw D is designed to bear against the said board about the edges of the notch at each end of the board, and at the middle portion of the same the screws bear against a cross-piece F, which is provided with notches and is designed to be held crosswise against the board to hold the same snugly against the crackers or other articles to be displayed.

The hinges connecting the two sections of the display-top are supported on the rods G in the eyes g therein, and the lower end of the rod is provided with a button or screw-nut H, whereby the top may be suitably held to a box.

From the foregoing it will be seen that my improved display top may be easily and quickly applied to a box, and when the contents of the box are emptied the' top may be attached to a new box, and by means -of the ready adjustment of the board with the thumb-screws bearing against the board designed to hold the crackers the top may be made to hold articles of various thicknesses snugly against the glass covering.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A display-top for boxes consisting of a casing designed to hold the articles to be displayed, combined with a board E adjustably held therein and the angle-screws, secured to the casing, and carrying adjustingnuts adapted to bear against the board, substantially as shown and described.

2. A display-box cover, consisting of the casing provided with angle-screws C having their free ends threaded, thumb-screws working thereon, combined with the board E, the cross-piece F, against which the thumb-screws are adapted to bear, and a detachable hinge,
