To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that l, SAMrsoN H. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Lockhart, in the county of Caldwell and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Marking Goods; and l do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled inthe art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to devices for marking dry goods of the class known in the trade as bolt-goods or piece-goods, that is to say, muslin, linen, woolen cloth, and similar textile fabrics which are wound upon or around a central or inner iiat base or board, so as to form a package, bolt, or piece, and is intended more particularly for the marking of fine and delicate fabrics, such as fine muslin or gossamer,7 fine silks, laces, and similar fabrics which are easily dam aged by marking by means of pinning a tag to the goods or inserting a pointed or pronged metallic tag or tag-holder between the folds or layers of the goods.

The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the said drawings the reference-letter A designates a bolt of textile material wound upon and around a fiat base or board B, of Wood or other suitable material. My improved marking device consists of three parts-Wiz., the fastening or attachment flap C, an oblong or metallic loop or bail D, and the marking Hap or tag proper, C. The attachment-flap Gis made of paper or other `brous or textile material and is lined with a waterproof material c, coated with an adhesive ccment. This flap is doubled upon itself and passed around one of the limbs, d, of the bail or loop D. Passing around the other limb, cl, of said bail or loopis a flap E', which may be made of any suitable material, to which is secured the n1arking-tag E, which may be made of stiff paper, cardboard, or any other material found convenient or desirable.

Having thus fully described my invention,l what I claim ism The herein-described improved marking device, the same consisting of a paper or fibrous or textile strip C, of flexible material, doubled upon itself around one of the limbs d of the obl-ong loop or bail D7 said strip being lined With a waterproof material coated with an adhesive cement, in combination with said loop or bail and with the tag E, hinged upon the opposite parallel limb CZ, of the intermediate bail, substantially as and for the purpose shown and set forth.
