Description

T m 0 L E D Y A S J (NoModeL) PAPER HOLDER" AND CUTTER. No. 57-2 4 ,351. Patented Dem-.1, 1996* INVENTOR WI TIIESS:
.To all whom it may concern:
' UNITED STATES JACOB S. AYDELOTT, OF MARION, INDIANA.
PAPER HOLDER AND CUTTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 572,351, dated December 1, 1896. Application filed July 3, 1896- Serial No. 593,001. (No model.)
Be it known that I JACOB S. AYDELOTT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Marion, in the county of Grant and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper Holders and Cutters, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to paper holders and cutters; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which is adapted for use in stores and in other places for supporting and holding a roll of paper, and which is provided with means whereby separate sheets or strips of the required size may be cut from said roll whenever desired for wrapping up packages or for other purposes.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of myimproved paper holder and cutter, and Fig. 2 a perspective view of a frame which I employ and which is provided with the cutter or blade.
In the practice of my invention I provide a suitable frame, which consists of a base plate or board A, at each end of which is an upright or standard a, and the upper ends of these uprights or standards a are connected by a cross plate or bar ta The uprights or standards Ct are provided centrally thereof with outwardly and upwardly directed arms B, which are provided at their outer ends with notches or recesses 12, and I also provide a frame which comprises two end plates or bars D, which are provided at their rear ends with inwardly-directed arms d, and secured to the inwardly-directed arms d is a weight H, said weight being secured in place by bolts h, which pass therethrough and through the arms d, and which are provided with nuts or burs h on their outer ends.
The weight H is provided at each end with a depending shoulder or projection 72 and the bars D are provided near their outer ends with a rod E, which passes therethrough, and said bars are curved downwardly and upor recesses 01 in the arms B, and in this position the rear portion of the said frame rests upon the paper roll between the shoulders or projections h and the end of the'paper is passed upwardly between the side plates of the removable frame and over the rod E and downwardly between the said rod and the blade F, as shown at L in Fig. 1, and whenever it is necessary to cut off or tear off a piece of the paper the same is done by catching hold of the end thereof and pulling it through the frame to the desired extent and then pulling upwardly thereon, so that the paper will be cut off by the lower edge of the blade F. v
The object of weighting the removable frame, to which the blade F is secured, is to provide means whereby the back or rear side thereof will press upon the paper roll and thus hold said roll in proper position and'prevent the too free movement thereof, and in pulling or cutting off the end of the sheet or strip of paper the pressure of the weight on the roll will prevent the revolution thereof.
This device is simple in construction and operation and is well adapted to accomplish the result for which it is intended, while being also comparatively inexpensive, and it is evident that changes in the form of the va rious parts thereof may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages, and I reserve the right to make all such changes therein and modifications thereof as fairly come within the scope of the invention.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A paper holder and cutter, comprising a frame in which a paper roll is adapted to be revolubly mounted, said frame being provided with outwardly-directed arms on which is pivotally supported a movable frame, the
back of which is provided with a weight, which is adapted to rest upon said roll, and the front of which is provided with a transverse rod over which the end of the paper is passed, and with a blade by means of which the paper may be cut off, substantially as shown and described.
2. A paper holder and cutter, comprising a frame in which a paper roll is adapted to be revolubly mounted, said frame being provided with outwardly-directed arms, on which is pivotally supported a movable frame, the back of which is provided with a weight, which is adapted to rest upon said roll and the front of which is provided with a transverse rod over which the end of the paper is passed and with a blade by means of which the paper may be cut off, said paper being passed be tween the rod and the blade, and the movable frame being supported by the ends of said rod, which rest in notches or recesses formed in the arms connected with the main frame or support, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing a my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 29th day of June, 1896.
