Description

eeeeeeeee DRIVEN WELL SYSTEM- NL Y MIN/1 LIYHD" WASHINGTQN. o. c
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
BENJAMIN F. SMITH, OF SOMERVILLE, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- IIALF TO CHARLES G. SMITH, OF SAME PLACE.
DRIVEN-WELL SYSTEM.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 572,034, dated November 24, 1896.
Application filed May 20, 1896. Serial N0.'59Z,302. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN F. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Somerville, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in I Drivenell Systems, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in driven-well systems and it has for its object the facilitating of the digging of the trench in which the main conduit-pipe and Artesianwell supply-pipes are located, and it is carried out as follows, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 represents a top plan view of my invention, and Fig. 2 represents a side elevation of the same.
Similar letters refer to similar parts wherever they occur on the difierent parts of the drawings.
In the drawings, A A A represent the individually-driven Artesian-well pipes, and B B B represent sections of the main conduit or delivery pipe to which said well-pipes A are connected, as shown. On the side of each pipe B is cast in one piece with it a hollow inclined boss or hub 11, said hubs or bosses being arranged alternately on opposite sides of the sections 13 B, as shown.
B B B represent the joints of the sections B B B, said joints being shown in the drawings as flanged ones; but any other wellknown form of joints for said pipes may be used without departing from the essence of my invention.
The respective well-pipes A are located transversely alternately at opposite sides of said joints B, by which great saving is obtained in the making of the excavations for laying the conduit B B, as of necessity a greater amount of digging is necessary where for all the sections in the series.
nected to the well-pipe A by means of a fiexible pipe E, as shown in the drawings.
By the arrangement as above described several advantages are obtained, among which may be mentioned: The conduit pipes B, with their inclined bosses or hubs b, are made uniform, and only a single pattern is needed Great saving in the cost of trenching the pipes is attained on account of locating the well-pipes alternately at opposite sides of the conduitjoints, and by using flexible connections E between the well-pipes and conduit-pipes an easy and practical connection is established between the conduit and well pipes Without the need of specially-prepared connectionpipe for this purpose.
\Vhat I wish to secure by Letters Patent and claim is- In a driven-well system, a series of jointed conduit-pipes having straight inclined hubs or bosses cast thereon, well-pipes alternately arranged on opposite sides of said conduitpipe approximately in line with the joints of the latter, and inclined branch pipes leading from the said Well-pipes to the said inclined hubs or bosses, substantially as described and for the purposes specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses, on this 30th day of April, A. D. 1896.
BENJAMIN F. SMITH.
