Description
UNITED STATES ALBERT D. CHASE, OF READING, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND PATENT OFFICE.
AMos T.
HUBBABD, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
i. IIVIPROVED BED-BOTTOM.
To all whom it may concern; Y i
Be it known that I, ALBERT D. CHASE, of Reading, in the county of Berks and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and usefnl` Improvement in the Mode of Suspending the Sla-ts of Beds; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description ot the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, made part of this specification, in Which- Figure l is a perspective View, and Fig. 2 is a vertical section.
The same letters refer to identical parts.
A is the slat of a bed, having on the end a double hook, B, formed as represented. Gis a pin, with a head on each end, resting Linder the hooks on each side of the slat. The pin C passes through the loop D, made of a web of indiarubber, to give elasticity to the suspended slat. i
The loop of elastic web passes under the cross-piece E, which is secured to the plate F by screws, which also secure the plate F to the inner face of the rail of thebed.
The plate F has a rectangular slot of the saine width as the cross-pieoe E, and the rubber cloth, bein g closely compressed by the stress of the screws, yields and fornis aslioulder Within the angular corners'of the slot in the plate F, thus effeotually preventing the ends of the loop from slipping through.
What I claim as my invention, and seek to secure by Letters Patent, is
The hereinbefore-described mode of suspending the slats of beds by means of the double hooks B, rod C, loop D, cross-piece E, and plate F, the said several parts being respectively constructed and combined for use substantially as set forth.
In t-estimonyv whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
J oHN YA. BANKS, F. M. BANKS.
