UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JASPER DOLLISON AND SOLOMON RIMER, OF SALESVILLE, OHIO.
BOOT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent NO. 570,201, dated October 27, 1896.
Application filed September 11, 1895. Serial No. 562,202. (No model.)
T 0 (Ml whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JASPER DOLLISON and SOLOMON RIMER, citizens of the United States, and residents of Salesville, in the county of Guernsey and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boots; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
Our invention relates to improvements in boots, and its object is to provide an improved construction of the same which shall possess superior advantages with respect to efliciency in use.
The invention consists in forming the front at the lower rear sides with two wings or flaps, which are secured at the back, and the edges of the latter and the front are then stitched together, as hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of a boot constructed in accordance with our invention. Figs. 3, 4:, and 5 are detail views.
In the said drawings the reference-numeral 1 designates the front of a boot formed at the rear lower portion at each side with a flap or wing 2, which extends from the lower edge to any distance desired. These flaps are stitched to the back 3, with a counter 4. interposed between them, and the edges of the front and back above the flap are then stitched together. The leg thus formed has a sole secured to it, by sewing or otherwise, in any manner found desirable or convenient.
A boot constructed as above will be found to possess superior advantages with respect to efficiency in use, the back beingdouble from the lower portion up to any desired point, thus insuring greater strength and durability.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim is In a boot, the combination with the sole, the front leg portion secured thereto, having its rear upper edges cut away forming rearwardly-extending flaps, of the rear leg portion the vertical edges of which are secured to the front leg portion by a row of stitches extending from top to bottom thereof, and the lower edges of said rear portion secured to the sole, and the said flaps overlapping the lower part of said rear portion and stitched at the edges thereto and the lower ends secured to the sole and the lower part of the rear edges of said flaps meeting and abutting against each other, while the upper portions spread apart leaving a space therebetween and the counter secured to the sole and stitched to said flaps and surrounding the lower portions of the flaps, substantially as described.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own we have hereunto affixed our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
JASPER DOLLISON. SOLOMON RIMER.
