BlLLlARD-CUE TIP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 570,006, dated October 27, 1896. Application filed November 8, 1895. Serial No. 568 ,254. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Beit known that 1, PAUL A. CUENOT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Billiard-Cue Tips; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which Figure 1 is a view showing a portion of a billiard-cue and illustrating the tip properly attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the die and the tip end of the billiard-cue. Fig. 3 is a View showing the tip properly formed and in proper condition to be attached to a billiard-cue. Fig. at is a detached view of the tip, showing the same before it has been out to be attached to a cue. Fig. 5 is a sectional view of the tip.
The present invention has relation to bilhard-cue tips; and it consists in the novel construction hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts in all the figures of the drawings.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents a billiard-cue which is constructed in the ordinary manner, reference being had to properly attaching my improved tip. The tip a is preferably formed of leather and of a thickness to give the striking end of the billiard-cue the desired amount of cushion. The tip a is formed with the flange b, which flange is cut so as to produce the flaps c. Said flaps are preferably provided with parallel edges, as illustrated in Fig. 3. The parallel edges of each adjacent'flap meet or form vertexes at the tip a. In use the attaching sides of the flap and the tip are properly coated with glue or cement, after which the tip a is placed upon the end of the one A and said cue and tip placed in the die B,
which operation bends the flaps a over and upon the billiard-cue, as illustrated in Figs.
1 and 2, said die being formed of such a size that it will bring the flaps cin proper position upon the end of the cue. It Will be understood that by my peculiar arrangement I am enabled to securely attach a billiard-cue tip to the cue and at the same time permanently hold the tip in proper position for use. For the purpose of causing the fiaps c to present a neat appearance when they are placed upon the cue, as illustrated in Fig. 1, said flaps are tapered toward their outer ends, thereby bringing said ends to a feather-edge.
I have described the tip as being preferably formedof leather, but it will be understood that other material may be used Without departing from the nature of my invention, inasmuch as any material having the desired amount of elasticity can be used and the same object be accomplished.
By forming the tip a as described and providing it with the tapered flaps c, said tapered flaps terminating in a feather-edge, the tip can be attached to the end of a billiard-cue Without the necessity of forming a tenon upon the end of the cue, thereby leaving the tip end of the cue with a blunt portion to abut against the face of the tip, thereby preventing injury to the tip when brought in contact with a billiard-ball.
Having fully described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is I As an improved article of manufacture, a blank for billiard-cue tips consisting of the tip a, and the annular flange 17, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
