DISPLAY-STAND.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 569,961, dated October 20, 1896.

Be it known that I, WALTER J. DREW, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent and State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Display-Stand, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a certain new and useful display-stand for the display of carpetsweepers; and the invention consists in the combination of a sweeper-supporting stand or frame of any suitable form with a plurality of carpet-sweepers, the frame having downward projections or pins which engage with the bail-sockets of the sweepers, forming the legs, thereby utilizing the sweepers in combination with the pegs in forming the support for the display-stand proper.
It also consists, in connection with a proper framework for a display-stand, of a plurality of pegs extending outwardly, each peg adapted to engage with the bail-socket of a carpetsweeper, and thereby supporting the sweeper; and the objects of my invention are, first, to construct a very cheap, tasty, and convenient stand for the display of carpet-sweepers; second, to utilize two or more sweepers provided with bails and bail-sockets, said bail-sockets engaging with downwardly-extending pins and forming legs or standards for the stand; third, to utilize the bail-socket of a carpetsweeper in connection with the outwardlyprojecting pins, each pin adapted to support a single sweeper on the display-stand. These objects I accomplish by means of the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which the figure shows a side elevation of a stand constructed in accordance with my invention.
In the illustration of my invention shown in the drawing I have shown a display-stand having two carpet-sweepers utilized for standards, the figure showing an end view of such two sweepers.
I have shown the main body of the displaystand by A, which in the example of my invention shown in the drawing is substantially square in form. This body, however, may be made in any suitable shape, but I prefer to make it of a single piece of wood.
B represents the bails of the sweepers,which form the support, and S the sockets. The central portion A is provided in the example of my invention shown in the drawing with two downwardly-projecting pins, which on gage with the sockets S S. On either side there is a projecting pin, each pin engaging with a corresponding bail-socket of a carpetsweeper which it supports, and an upwardlyextending pin engages with the bail-socket of a carpet-sweeper which is thereby supported above the main frame A. The pins are shown by the dotted lines. These pins may be short, so as to be entirely inclosed within the sockets, or they may be lengthened, so as to support the carpet-sweepers at some distance from the central body A. In case the display-stand is enlarged a greater number of downwardly-projecting pins may be used to support the standards and a greater number of horizontal and upwardly-projecting pins may be used in order to support and display a larger number of carpet-sweepers.
I have shown the downwardly-projecting pins substantially perpendicular, but it will be understood that the direction of the pins which project from the central part A may be varied without departing from the spirit of my invention. The pins which engage with the bail-sockets are represented by the letters P P, &C.
Having thus described my invention,what I claim to have invented, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A display-stand for carpet-sweepers consisting of a frame provided with a plurality v of downwardly-projecting pins adapted to engage with the bail-socket of a corresponding number of carpet-sweepers to support the frame in an upright position, and a plurality of supports carried by the frame and arranged to engage and support the carpet-sweepers to be displayed, substantially as described.
