TOILET-BOX.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 569,402, dated October 13, 1896.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JOHN IV. BECK, of Toledo, county of Lucas, and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toilet-Cases; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.

My invention relates to a toilet-case, and has especial relation to a receptacle for holding a block, cube, or cake of magnesia or toilet preparation, with means for advancing to compensate for loss by wear or by use.

A further object is to provide a convenient, ornamental, and neat receptacle for a block of magnesia with means for vertically adj usting the same as to the projecting end with re lation to the toilet-case.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of a toilet-case, showing a block of magnesia adj usted to project above the upper end thereof. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional elevation of a toilet-case, showing the adjustable bottom portion and the supplemental expansible flexible holding portion. Fig. 3 is abottom plan view of the bottom portion and the supplemental expansible flexible holding portion. Fig. 4 is a like view showing a modified form of supplemental flexible expansible holding portion.

1 designates the toilet-case, preferably rectangular in cross-section to conform to the shape of the present form of cubes of magnesia and of a length to house a cube 2 and rest upon a vertically-movable bottom 3, inclosed within the case and provided with a radially-expansible flexible holding-spring 4c, supplemented to and secured upon the bottom in a manner to engage, when projected, with the sides of the case and hold the same in the desired adjustment to compensate for the wear of the magnesia.

In Figs. 2 and 3 the spring comprises a central body portion 5 with radially-engaging spring-arms 6, which bear against the sides when pressure is put upon the top side of the bottom 3 and hold the same in adjustment. In Fig. 4 the spring comprises the central portion 5, attachable to the bottom, and the radially-movable spring-arm 6' to contact with the side. In either case pressure upon the top side of the bottom 3 will cause the spring to have a radially-expansible movement and engage the sides of the case.

In operation the spring is contracted to allow of adjusting the bottom to a position to cause the endof the cube of magnesia to slightly protrude above the top of the case, when upon releasing the spring and applying pressure upon the magnesia the spring will expand radially and engage the sides of the case. The bottom 3 is adjusted vertically to compensate for wear of the cube by contracting the spring and an upward pressure upon the bottom, when expansion will again cause the spring to hold the bottom in adjustment.

For heavier work I may slightly roiighen the portions of the interior of the case with which the springs contact.

What I claim is- 1. In a toilet-case, abox, a vertically-movable bottom arranged therein, having a supplemental radially-expansible spring secured centrally to the under side of the bottom engaging frictionally with the sides of the box to hold the bottom in position after being adjusted vertically.

2. In a toilet-case, a box, a vertically-movable bottom arranged therein having a spring comprising a plate having four oppositelyprojecting spring-arms extending therefrom of a length to extend slightly beyond the edges of the bottom whereby they engage with the sides of the box to hold the bottom in position after being adjusted vertically.
