PlN-AND-CATCH DEVICE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 569,393, dated October 13, 1896.

To (all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that we,WILLIAM H. STREOKER and ARTHUR D. MOORE, citizens of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pin-and-Oatch Devices; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The subject of our invention is a novel pinand-catch device intended for numerous useful applications, some of which are hereinafter mentioned.

A prominent feature connected with the withindescribed improvements consists in the provision of a pin principally for piercin g a fabric and an opposite portion presenting a guard loop or eye for receiving and retaining said pin, the opposite portion terminatin g in a hook for engaging an eye or opening in the part carrying the pin for the purpose of positively holding the pin in engagement with the fabric. As further explained, it will appear that substantially the same parts in substantially the same relation are adapted for use as a connecting-buckle.

In the drawings accompanying this specification, Figure 1 is a view illustrating a section of wire formed to present the pin, guard, catch-hook, and loop or eye for the latter, the said view showing the wire section as it appears before being bent in the circular or ring form. Fig. 1 is a view showing a sheet-metal blank designed to be bent circular to constitute our pin-and-catch device with two pins. Fig. 2 is a similar view indicating an arrangement embodying several pins. Figs. 3 and 4 are perspective views illustrating, respectively, the blanks disclosed in Figs. 1 and 2, when shaped to present completed pin-andcatch devices, closed. Fig. 5 is a side view of the wire section represented in Fig. 1 bent circular and locked; and Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the construction shown in Fig. 5, the parts being relatively reversed.

A simple form of our invention is that partially exemplified in Fig. 1, and consists in shaping a section a of wire to present at one end a terminal pin 1) and contiguous loop or eye 0, at the other a terminal catch-hook (Z and guard loop or eye e, both at right angles to the loop or eye 0. The section thus formed and bent circular bringing its terminal portions in operative relation, the pin 17 can be caused to pierce a fabric properly introduced in the guard loop or eye 6, and positively retained from withdrawal therefrom by the engagement of the terminal hook cl with loop or eye 0, as shown in Figs. 5 and 5.

The construction described embodies asimple, cheap, and durable pin-and-catch device for securely suspending or holding one or more thicknesses of woven or other fabric. The light wire form referred to is specially suitable for exhibiting small manufactured articles, such as scarfs, handkerchiefs, dzc.

A ring embodying our improvements can be utilized for suspending a lambrequin or curtain from a pole, in which case a metal band f is suitably blanked, as shown in Fig.2, shaped, and bent circular to present contiguous end portions, one provided with two pins 1) b and an eye 0, the other terminating in a hook d at the end of an inwardly-extending offset g, the radial part of which has perforations constituting pin-receiving eyes e e. The ban d form of this device, the duplication of the piercing-pin, and the presence of the offset g secure the strength and rigidity desirable in a curtain-pole ring. The employment of two pins and the clearance afforded by the offset permits holding curtains in uniform plaits or folds, desirable in certain draperies. A peculiar advantage of this construction of ring is that it may be adjusted on the pole to suspend the curtain without necessarily removing said pole from its supports.

Obviously the device last described may be so located as to receive and, when locked, withhold a lace or other curtain in the desired position.

The arrangement shown in Fig. at is generally similar to that illustrated in Fig. 3, except that it is provided with a larger number of piercing-pins b and a corresponding number of guard-eyes, an external loop-eye or equivalent device 1' being medially located to permit its suspension to advantageously display several fabrics respectively engaged by said pins.

Manifest-1y the terminal portions can be in separate parts respectively secured to independent sections or portionsas,for instance, strap endsto effect theready attachment and detachment of the same, in which operation our improved pin-and-catch device will serve as a securing and readily-adjustable connecting-buckle.

As a readily-adjustable connecting medium the pin and hook portions can be utilized for joining or attaching sections of cord or other form of cable, besides being capable of use for securing together curtain-straps and parts generally requiringa secure but convenientlydetachable connection.

It will be understood that our novel pin-andcatch device, in addition to its being comparatively inexpensive of production, has a wide range of utility, as it can be employed for suspending and fancifully displaying a great variety of commercial articles.

Having described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a catch device, the combination of two portions one provided with aterminal pin and contiguous eye or loop, and the other with an end hook to engage said eye or loop, and a second eye or loop to receive and serve as a guard for the pin, substantially as set forth.

2. A pin-and-catch device made from a single piece of metal bent circular, provided at one end with a terminal pin and contiguous eye or loop, and at the other with an end hook to engage said eye or loop and an eye '35 or loop to receive and serve as a guard for the pin, substantially as set forth.

3. A pin-and-catch device adapted to serve as a ring for curtain-poles and consisting of a blank of sheet metal bent and provided at 40 one end with a terminal pin or pins and contiguous eye or opening, and at the other with a hookended offset, the radial portion of which is perforated to receive and guard the pin or pins, substantially as set forth.

4. A pin-and-catch device consisting of a blank of sheet metal bent and provided at one end with a terminal pin or pins and contiguous eye or opening; at the other with a hook-ended offset, the radial portion of which 50 is perforated to receive and guard the pin or pins, and medially with a device for the attachment of a suspending medium, substantially as set forth.
