Be it known that I, Jnsrnn Snnvnnninz, a citizen of the United States7 residing at ,Sunbury, in the county of Northumberland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Stop-Cock toi"\Vate1-Servicc Systems, of which 'the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in stop-cocks for water-service systems, adapted 1o foi-introduction in a service-pipe between the street water-main and the building, approximately at the curb or between the parts of the service-pipe owned, respectively, by the water-supply company and the property-owner, and the object in view is to provide means whereby the location of ice in the servicepipe may be determined, to iin the responsibility thereof upon either the property-owner or the company, and at the same time avoid zo unearthing the entire length oi pipe in order to discover the point at which thc stoppage exists.
Further objects and advantages of this invention will appear in the following description and the novel features thereof will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Located at the lower extremity oi' the bore i) is a valve-seat 2, in operative relation with which is arranged a test-valve i3, having a stem li, which exten ds upwardly through he bore, and is provided at its upper extrenrty with a stop l5 to prevent displacement and at the same time allow vertical movement of the valve.
ln connection with the above-described construction l employ a wrench 1G, having atubular stein or shank 17, which terminates at its upper end in a handle 1S and at its lower end in a jaw 19 to it the wrench-seat ll, and the bore 2O ot' said stem or shank is provided at its upper extremity with a lateral port 21.
When itis desired to detect the location of a stoppage in the service-pipe, the Wrench, constructed as above described, is lowered and applied to the seat l i, thereby bearing against the upper extremity of the stem la of the testvalve 1S and unseating the latter against the tension of a spring 22, which is preferably arranged in the opening 7 to hold said testvalve seated when not exposed to pressure within the casing. lf the stoppage occurs at a point between the stop-cock and the building or inside of the stop-cock, the pressure in the main will discharge water through the bore il and the stein or shank of the wrench, whereas it the stoppage occurs between the stop-cock and the main or outside of the stopcoci; no such discharge of water through the bore of the stein 'will occur.
Itwill be understood that the construction as above described may be applied to any resorted to without departing from the spirit ordinary form of stop-cock, and by its use it is obvious that considerable time, labor, and
or sacricing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having described my invention, what I claim isl.
