SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 568,880, dated October 6, 1896.

Application filed February 28, 1896- Serial No. 581,183. (NO model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE SIEGENTHALER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fremont, in the county of Sandusky and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hame Attachments or Clips; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertaius to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to improvements in hame-clips, and has for its object the provision of an improved clip and screw for securing the said clip to the hame.

The invention further consists in the shape and proportion of the hame and in the novel construction and arrangement of the several parts of the device hereinafter described, illustrated in the drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.

In the drawings, Figure l is a view of one of my'improved clips attached to one of my newly-proportioned hames. Fig. 2 is a sectional view thereof; and Fig. 3 is a View, partly in section, of the screw I).

A indicates a hame of the usual and ordinary construction, with the exception that about four and a half or five inches of the draft-sustaining portion thereofi. 6., that part between the points marked a: rcis the same or nearly the same size. This uniform size of this portion of the hame is for the purpose of permitting the vertical adjustment of the hame-clip to different portions of the hame in order to shift the point of strain to suit diiferent horses.

ct is a suitable metallic strip secured to the hame, as usual.

B is a clip consisting of a band or bands B and a link or staple B rigidly secured thereto. In the drawings 1 have shown two bands B, but it is evident that a clip can be constructed with but one, if so desired. In

the bands B B at each end of the staple b are screw-threaded openings 1), into which set and run screws I), used for the purpose of securing said clip to the hame. These screws b are of any proper length and have at one end squared or cubical heads b the other end being dished, hollowed, or concaved, as shown at 19 This dished, hollowed, or concaved construction is for the purpose of affording a larger and more secure bearing-surface at the end of the screw where it binds against the hame or the metallic strip a, secured thereto, whereby one turn of the screw 12 will secure the said clip to the hame four or more times as securely as one turn of one of the screws having the ends as heretofore used for this purpose. It will be noticed in this construction of clip that the bands and staple are either integral or rigidly secured together.

Having thus described my invention, I claim 1. In a hame attachment the combination of the hame having a portion of its draft-sustaining surface of uniform size, substantially as described, with a clip B consisting of the bands B, B, extending entirely around the hame, and the link or staple B connecting said bands and cast integral therewith, the screws b, b, and the dished or concaved points or binding ends th ereof, all constructed and arranged substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.

2. In a hame attachment the combination of a hame having a portion of its draft-suswith, screws b, b, cubical heads thereon, and

the dished or concaved points or binding ends of the said screws, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
