Description

(No Model.) v
' J. S. STGUT.
JSSZW.
A TTH/VEYS WITNESSES UNITED l STATES PATENT OEEICE.
JOHN S. STOUT, OF OXFORD JUNCTION, IOW'A.
DRAW-BAR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 568,378, dated September 29, 1896.
Application iiled June 25,1896. Serial No. 596,928. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom t may concern.:
Be it known that I, JOHN S. STOUT, residing at Oxford Junction, in the county of Jones and State of Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Draw-Bar, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates generally to drawbars and draw-heads, and more particularly to the connection or coupling between said parts.
My invention consists in certain details of construction and novelties of combination, all of which will be fully described hereinafter and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings hereunto annexed and forming a part of this specification, Figure l is a view showing my invention in use. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view showing the draw head and bar, the guide lugs or shoulders being arranged upon the draw-head in this case. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section of the combination shown in Fig. 2.
In carrying out my invention I employ a draw-head A, a drawbar B, said draw-bar being constructed with the two parallel members B', said members having inwardly-projecting shoulders O at their forward ends, and in the opposite sides of the draw-head are produced the grooves 0r recesses D, into which the shoulders are adapted to fit when the drawbar and draw-head are properly arranged, and passing transversely through the bar and rear end of the head is a bolt E, and having a head E at one end and a nut F screwed upon the opposite end. Now, in order to prevent any lateral movement of the draw-head within the bar, I construct said draw-bar head with oppositely-disposed grooves and guide lugs or shoulders integral with its sides, the 'drawbar having inwardly projecting shoulders adapted to engage the grooves, and said guide lugs or shoulders projecting rearward beyond the forward ends of the bar, thus preventing any possible twisting or oblique movement.
It will thus be seen Iprovide an exceedingly cheap and simple combination, which can be quickly and easily assembled. It will also be observed that my improvement can be applied to any of the draw-bars and draw-heads now in use, and it will also be noted that my invention is thoroughly efficient and will pers form all of its intended functions in the manner specified.
Having thus described my invention, what I claimas new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination with the draw-head, having oppositely-disposed grooves, of the guide lugs or shoulders integral with the sides of said draw-head, the draw-head having inwardly-projecting shoulders, the connecting bolt and nut, said guide lugs or shoulders being adapted to project rearward beyond the forward ends of the draw-bar, substantially as shown and described.
JOHN S. STOUT.
