E. A. SANDERS BOTTLE.
lllllllmh M m/ MM Wl TNESS:
NiTEn STATES PATENT E'EicE.
ELIZABETH ANN SANDERS, VOF JAMES STORE, VIRGINIA.
BOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 568,210, dated September 22, 189.
Application filed April 22, 1896.
To all whom it' may concern:
Be it known that I, ELIZABETH ANN SAN- DERS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of .I ames Store, in the county of Gloucester and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottles, of which the following is a speciiication, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to bottles, j ugs, jars, and similar vessels; and the object thereof is to provide a vessel of this class which, having been once filled, may be emptied of its contents, but cannot be refilled or reused.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following speciiicatiomof which the accompanying drawings form a part, in Which- Figure 1 is a central vertical section of a bottle made according to my invention,'and Fig. 2 a plan View of a divided cork or stopper which I employ.
In the practice of my invention I provide a bottle or other vessel A, having a screwthreaded neck a, and at one side of which is formed a passage a2, which extends through` the side of the neck and downwardly to the bottom of the bottle, thus forming a vertical chamber a4 at one side of the bottle, which opens at the top of theneck.
The neck a is adapted to be closed by a vertically-divided plug or stopper C, and `I also employ a tubular cap or casing B, the lower end of which is screw threaded, as shown at b, and within the upper end of which is placed a supplemental tube D, the upper end of which is connected with the cap or casing B by an annular flange CZ and the lower end of which is closed, as shown at d2, and the sides thereof are provided with ports or openings d3, which are arranged adjacent to the bottom d2. I also provide a divided plug or stopper C, which is adapted to be forced into the neck of the bottle and through which passes a rod E, which is provided with a head or washer F on its lower end, and the rod E passes upwardly through the bottorn'cl2 of the supplemental tube D, and mounted on said 5o rodA above the plug or stopper C is a disk or plate G.
The upperend of the supplemental tube D Serial No. 588,576. (No model.)
` contents, after which'the neck a is closed by the plug or stopper O, and the tubular casing B is then secured to the neck, a proper cement being first applied thereto, after which the tubular casing cannot be removed without breaking the saine or breaking oft the neck. The rod-E is passed through the plug or stopper and secured-in place before the latter is 7o forced into the neck of the bottle, and When the parts are thus assembled the upper end of the rod passes through the bottom d2 of the supplemental tube D. The vertical chamber a4 serves as the safety guard or device where- 75 by notice will be given if the bottle has been illed a second time, and when it is desired to empty the bottle or discharge a portion of its contents the plug or stopper is removed from the supplemental tube D, after which the rod 8o E is drawn outwardly, and this operation removes the plug or stopper C from the neck of the bottle, after which the contents theref of may be discharged, as will be readily understood, by inverting or tilting the bottle, when the contents will pass out through the neck and through the ports or openings cl3 in the supplemental tube, and this operation may be continued or repeated until the bottle is entirely empty.
If an attempt be made to relill the bottle with liquids similar to those originally contained therein, the chamber c4 will also be filled, and this filling of the chamber a4 will constitute proof of the fact that the bottle 95 has been filled a second time, and it will be impossible to recork the bottle by reason of the fact that when the plug or stopper is withdrawn the separate parts thereof fall apart, and said parts cannot be again united and inroo serted into the neck.
This device is simple in construction and operation and is perfectly adapted to accom- `plish the result for which it is intended, .and I may place upon the casing B a trade-mark, or the name of the proprietor or manufacturer of the contents of the bottle, and any other descriptive matter.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. A bottle or other vessel, provided with a neck and a passage or chamber formed in the side wall thereof, which extends upwardly through one side of the neck, said neck being adapted to be closed bya plug or stopper and a tubular attachment secured thereto, and provided at its upper end with a supplemental tube which is arranged therein, and connected therewith, at the upper end, said supplemental tube being closed at its lower end and perforated, and a rod which is adapted to be passed through the bottom of the supplemental tube and connected with the plug or` stopper, substantially as shown and described.
2. A bottle or other vessel, provided with a neck and a passage or chamber formed in the side wall thereof, which extends upwardly through one side of the neck, said neck being adapted to be closed by a plug or stopper, and a tubular attachment secured thereto, and provided at its upper end with a supplemental tube which is arranged therein, and connected therewith, at the upper end, said supplemental tube being closed at its lower end and perforated, and a rod 'which passes through the bottom of the supplemental tube and through said plug or stopper, and 0n which is mounted a disk or plate, substantially as shown and described.
3. A bottle or other vessel, provided with a neck and a passage or chamber formed in the side wall thereof, which extends upwardly through one side of the neck, said neck being adapted to be closed by a plug or stopper, and a tubular attachment secured thereto and provided at its end with a supplemental tube which is arranged therein, and connected therewith, at the upper end, and said supplemental tube being closed at its lower end and perforated, and a rod which passes through the bottom of the supplemental tube and through said plug or stopper, and on which is mounted a disk or plate, and said plug or stopper being divided vertically, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention l have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 14th day of April, 1896.
ELIZABETH ANN SANDERS.
