Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GESAR NEUMANN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN HOOP-SKIRTS.
To alll whom fit may conce/m.-
Be it known that I, OJESAR NEUMANN, of the city, county, and State of New York, have inyented a new and useful Improvement in HoopSkirts; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this speciication, in Which- Figure lA represents a side elevation of this invention. Fig. 2 is a partial side View of one of the tapes detached in a larger scale than the previous figure. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal vertical section ofthe same.
4Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
This invention consists, first, in arranging the pockets or shirrs which support the hoops in sections of two or more shirrs, each in such a manner that a hoop-skirt is obtained in which two or Inore wires are close together and which presents a novel and unique appearance.
It consists, also, in arranging the wires of a hoop-skirt in sections of two or more each, said wires being single or double, in such a manner that a strong, durable, and light skirt can he produced.
A represents a hoop-skirt, the wires B of which are supported bythe tapes G. These tapes are provided with shirrs or pockets a,
'which are woven iu sections, each section comprising two or more pockets, as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawings. The wires of the'hoop-skirt are thereby divided in sections ot' two or more wires each, according4 to the number of shirrs in each section of pockets, and a skirt can be produced which excels in strength and lightness, and which can be made cheap.
It must be remarked that the wires may be supported or fastened to the tapes by any suitable means, and I do not Wish to c'outine myself to the, precise arrangement shown in the drawings. The number of wires in each section will generally be three in the upper and four in the lower sections, as shown in Fig. l, though I do not Wish to confine myself to any particular' number, and reserve the right to change the same as may be desirable.
By arranging the wires close together in sections they are not liable to break. Thinner wire can be used than in ordinary skirts, and the cost ofthe skirt is materially reduced, and at the same time an article is produced which presents a unique and novel appearance, and which will be sought after by the public.
I do not claim placing' a series of metallic strips edge to edge in a com mon covering.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A hoop-skirt having its Wires arranged in sections or clusters, each section comprising' two or more Wires placed near together in separate pockets, substantially as described, as a new article of manufacture.
OESAR NEUMANN.
