Description

' (N0 iVIodeI.)
W. G. BOLUS. KETTLE HOLDER AND SI CRAINERL No. 567,763. Patented Sept. 15, 1896.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM G. BOLUS, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO SARAH J.
- CUSHMAN, OF SAME PLACE.
KETTLE-HOLDER AND STRAINER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of' Letters Patent No. 567,763, dated September 15, 1896. Application filed December 10, 1895. Serial No. 571,696. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern: i
Be it known that-I, WILLIAM G. BoLUs, of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Kettle-Holders and Strainers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the drawings accompanying this application.
My improvement relates to a device used on the top of a pot or kettle to facilitate the pouring of water, and is of that kind where the upward movement of the kettle-bail tightens the attachment down upon the vessel, so that the water can be poured with safety.
The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of a kettle with the device attached. Fig. 2 is a side elevation with the bail partially raised. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the upper portion of the device.
A indicates an ordinary pot or kettle, and B its bail. C is the attachment which constitutes my invention. It is made entirely of wire, consisting of two parts twisted to g'ether at c, the front being separated into two arms 61 cl, with downturned hooks d d, which embrace the front edge of the kettle. The two rear ends, which extend to the back of the kettle, have a ring f to receive the fingers of the operator. The central portion of the frame is provided with two coils g g, on opposite sides, with which engage corresponding eyes of a double-sided bow or handle D, free to swing forward and backward.
F is a clamp which slides up and down on the bow D. Itconsists of two loops 70 k, which slide on the sides of the bow, a projecting hook l, in which the kettle-bail B rests, and a handle 0%, by which it is operated.
'bow D till the parts are tight.
To use the device the frame 0 is placed flatwise on top of the kettle, the hooks d d resting over the front edge and the loop or ring f resting over the rear of the vessel, as shown in Fig. 1. The bail B of the kettle is then turned back and fitted in the hook Z of the clamp F, and the clamp is raised on the In this condition, when the kettle is tilted for the purpose of pouring the water the clamp F tightens on the bow, and the kettle-bail, being of less radius, bears down on the top of the frame 0 and holds it tightly to the kettle. In this condition the water can be poured with safety. G is a strainer, which may or may not be used, as desired.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A holding device for kettles, consisting of a frame placed flatwise on top of the kettle, a bow jointed to the same capable of free swinging movement, and a clamp sliding up and down on the bow and provided witha hook for catching the kettle-bail, as specified.
2. In a holding device for kettles, the combination, with a frame for resting fiatwise on the kettle, and with a bow jointed to same so as to have free swinging movement, of a clamp provided with loops that slide on the how, and a hook to receive the kettle-bail,
the upward swinging movement of the bail clamping the parts in place and holding the device down to the kettle as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM G. BOLIIS. Witnesses:
R. F. Oseoon, G. R. OSGOOD.
