CLOTHES-BASKET.
Specification of Letters fatent.
' Application filed September 21, 1912. Serial No. 721,613.
to provide a wire clothes basket having a clothes pin holder carried thereby, the hasket being provided with an improved type of handle and with a removable bottom. This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of the clothes basket. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the clothes pin holder. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the bottom plate for the basket. Fig. 4 is an enlarged perspective view of the handle for the clothes basket.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, it will be seen that this'invention comprises a basket 10 which is formed from woven wire and which may be of any desired shape but which is preferably elliptical as shown in Fig. 1. A bottom plate 11 of the same shape as the basket is placed in the bottom of the basket so that when the basket is placed upon the lawn there will be no danger of grass or dirt coming in contact with the clothes in the basket thus protecting the clothes from being soiled. connected with each end of the basket and comprises a U-shaped handle member 12 carrying the hand grip 13 and having its end portions bent to form the integral books 14. These handle hooks 14 are connected with auxiliary hooks carried by the upper ring 15 of the basket. each of the auxiliary hooks being formed from a single piece of wire 'bent to form the, open eye 16 and the end portions brought together and bent to form the hook portion 17 which is soldered to the upper ring 15. Upon referring particularly to Fig. i, it will be noted that only a single upright wire 15 is between each pair of auxiliary hooks; this positioning or straddling of each handle structure over A handle is Patented Feb. 22, 1916.
a bracing and supporting wire causes the major portion of the strain to be distributed upon this reinforcing member 15*, thereby relieving the strain to a great degree from being placed upon the upper rim wire 15 and consequently increasing the life of the receptacle both as to its durability and with respect to its aristic value or-appearance. This type of handle forms a very strong structure which is not liable to break or work loose.
When in use, the clothes are placed in the basket and may then be carried out into the I yard where they are to be hung upon the line. The clothes pins are placed in a Wire receptacle 18 having two of its vertical rods formed into hooks 19 by means of which the basket may be removably connected with the upper ring 15 of the basket. It will be noted that the hook portion 17 of each auxiliary hook extends from the eye so as to be double 7 Having thus described the invention,
what is claimed as new, is
In a device of the class described, the
combination of an open mesh body, said body provided'with an edge wire, auxiliary hooks carried by said edge wire, said auxiliary hooks formed from single strands of wire being bent intermediate their ends, each strand comprising an eye, the strand then extending to form a double ply hooked portion, whereby the eye will be integral with the hook portion so as to prevent its opening, both plies of said hook portion embracing said edge wire and being soldered in position, whereby said auxiliary hooks will be permanently retained in a set position upon said edge wire, said eyes being permanently carried at a distance above said In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my edge vvlres, handles havmg hooked ends enslgnature in presence, of two WltIlQSSGS- gagingsaid eyes, whereby p0ss1b1e 1113111 to said mesh body is prevented since said LIZZIE GEORGIE' auxiliary hooks are prevented from slipping Witnesses: 7
along said edge Wire and said handles are MAMIF, J. MCWiLLIAMS,
pivotally supported above said edge Wire. A. J. GORE.'-
