LA RUE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Paris, in the county of Bourbon and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottles; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and eX- act description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in' bottles, whereby when opened to Withdraw the contents therefrom the bottles are practically destroyed, so that they cannot be again used.

As is well known, it is a common practice with unscrupulous and dishonest persons to refill bottles having a trade-mark, label, or other character thereon with an imitation liquid and pass the same off upon unsuspecting l parties as the genuine article. l

The object of my invention is to provide a bottle in which the cork cannot be bored into, so that in order to withdraw the contents it I will be necessary to break off the neck of the bottle, which is weakened for such purpose.

The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of a bottle constructed in accordance with myinvention and showing the metal cap for the cork. Fig. 2 is a view of the cork removed, showing the metal cap in place thereon; and Fig. 3 is a view of the cap before being clamped to the cork.

In the said drawings the reference numeral 1 designates the bottle, and 2 the neck thereof. The neck is made thinner than the body of the bottle, so that it can be readily broken off by a blow from a knife or other object, and is provided with alower interior an= nular shoulder a and an upper interior annular shoulder b.

When the bottle has been filled, the band of the cap is bent around the outer side of the cork and the plates bent down upon the top of the cork. The cork, with the cap, is 5 5 now driven into the neck of the bottle until the lower end of the cork abuts against the annular shoulder a, which prevents the cork being driven too far into the bottle. hen the cork strikes the said shoulder, its upper end and the cap carried thereby will have just passed the upper shoulder Z), and the band of the cork will immediately swell and fill the neck of the bottle. The swelling of the cork will spread the plates 4 under the shoulder 12 so that it will be impossible fora person to insert an implement, such as a pair of pincers or'nippers, between the interior wall of the neck and the cork for the purpose of withdrawing the latter. Neither can a tool, such as a corkscrew, be inserted into the cork, inasmuch as the plates 4 4 entirely cover the cork. The only way to re move the contents of the bottle is to break the neck, which is weakened for that purpose, and by so doing the bottle is rendered useless for refilling without detection of fraud.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A bottle, havinga weakened neck provided with an internal shoulder, in combination with a stopper, and a metallic cap con sisting of two plates which lie upon the top of the stopper and is connected by a band which embraces the side of the stopper, whereby when the stopper and cap are driven into the bottle-neck under the said shoulder, the expansion of the stopper will cause the plates to spread and engage the interior wall of the neck, substantially as described.
