To aZZ whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ANDERs BULL, a subject of the King of Sweden and Norway, and a resident of Ohristiania, in the Kingdom of Norway, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drawing-Pens, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, the same having been patented in Germany June 18, 1895, N0. 81,47 9; in Belgium June 17, 1895, No. 11,697; in England June 17, 1895, No. 11,747; in Austria July 8, 1895, No. 45/2,50-i; in Hungary June 29,1895, No.3,110; in France June 17,1895,No. 248,188, and in Switzerland June 17 1895, No. 10,609.

The present invention consists of a device by means of which a drawing-pen may be readjusted to produce a line of constant thickness after the pen has been opened, for instance, for the purpose of cleaning the same, the readjustment to produce a line of the same thickness as had been made before the pen was opened being effected by means of a swinging arm hinged to one of the pentongues and carrying an adjustable screw to operate on the opposite tongue, as hereinafter described.

In order to render the present specification more easily intelligible, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which similar letters of reference denote similar parts throughout the several views.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of the pen; Fig. 2, a section on line a; a; of Fig. 1 and Fig. 3 a similar section to Fig. 2, but drawn to a larger scale.

The drawing-pen is of the usual construction, with tongues or nibs b b, of which one may be arranged on a hinge, if desired. To the nib b is pivoted, at a, one end of a bowarm a having, at its opposite end a boss cl, in which the adjusting-screw e of the pen fits, its point being arranged to advantageously penetrate the back of the nib b slightly.

The device operates in the following manner: When it is required to clean the pen and then to adjust it to exactly the same thick ness of line as it had previously produced, the tongues or nibs b b are pressed slightly 566,654, dated August 25, 1896.

together, so as to allow the point of the screw 6 to be withdrawn from the indentation at the back of the nib b. The arm a is then thrown back and the pen cleaned in the ordinary manner. The arm a with the adj ustingscrew is then replaced and the pin is read justed exactly as before. The screw e should fit the boss cl of the arm a rather tightly in order to prevent its being inadvertently turned during the cleaning operationl In order to be able to adj ust the tightness of the said screw,the boss (1 is advantageously split and provided with a tightening-screw s, as shown at Fig. 3. i

I claim as my invention-- 1. In a drawing-pen the combination of a bow-arm, embracing both the nibs and being pivoted to the back of one nib, said arm having at its free end an adjusting-screw to operate the second nib substantially as described.

2. In a drawingpen, the combination of a bow-arm Ct pivoted to the back of the nib b, and carrying at its free end an adjustingscrew 6 to fit a depression in the opposite nib and means for tightening the fit of said adjustingscrew as specified.

3. In a drawing-pen the combination of the arm a pivoted to the back of one nib b and embracing the other nib, a boss 61 at the end of said arm, a screw to fit said boss and operate on the second nib and means for tightening said screw substantially as described.
