FILTER.
No.- 566,631. Patented Aug. 25, 1896i 62 WTNESSES.'
UNITED STATES PATENT EEieE.
SYDNEY STARKEY, OF EAST LIVERPOOL, OHIO.
FILTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 566,631, dated August 25, 1896.
Application filed July 13, 1896. Serial Nox 599,037. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom, t 712/601/ concern:
Beit known that I, SYDNEY STARKEY, of East Liverpool, in the county of Columbiana and State of Ohio, have invented an Improved Filter,of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to filters, and has for its object the provision of a lter which will possess advantages in point of simplicity, inexpensiveness, durability, and general eihciency.
With these objects in view the invention consists of the details of construction and arrangement which will more fully appear hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings, Whichform a part of this application, Figure l is a perspective of my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view. l
Like numerals and letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the views.
Referring to the drawings, in carrying out my invention I employ an outer case A, having the bottom c, terminating in a cylindrical pipet. A detachable cover C is connected to the outer casing A by means ofthe screw threads 2, Working in the female threads 3, situated in the upper end of the said case A.
A washer et is placed between the adjacent edges of the cover and casing, so as to form a tight joint and prevent leakage. A nozzle d forms an integral part of the cover O, and has situated therein interior female threads e for engagement with the male threads upon a faucet or Water-pipe.
Situated Within the Awasher f is placed flltering-casingAis placed acylindrical piece of porous wood g. The Wood more preferable to be used is grape-vine Wood on account of its porous qualities and its accessibility of procurement.
A second piece of grape-vine Wood h. is inserted inthe bottom end or pipe l). A sponge i, inserted in the case O, aids in assisting the porous grape-vine in clarifying the Water. Theoperation and practicability of the abovedescribed invention can be readily seen from the above description.
The Water passing through the nozzle d is cleaned by lterin g through the sponge e' and the porous section of grape-vine g, and is sucked out through the grape-vine stick h.
Various modiiications of the above may be made Without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus described myinvention, what I claim as new7 and desire to secure by Letters Patent, ism- In a filter of the class described, the coin- SYDNEY STARKEY.
