Description

(NoModeL) M. DOBRFEL.
HARMONICA. No. 566,448. Patented Aug. 25,1896.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MAX DOERFEL, OF KLINGENTHAL, GERMANY.
HARMONICA.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 566,448, dated August 25, 1896.
Application filed March 16, 1894.
To all whom it may concern:-
Be it known that 1, MAX DOERFEL, manufacturer, a subject of the King of Saxony, residing at the village of Klingenthal, in the Kingdom of Saxony, German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harmonicas, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists of a casing for a harmonica arranged to entirely close the same and protect the mouthpiece when the instrument is not in use, said casing being of general cylindrical form, but having an extension along one part of its circumference which is slitted to provide flanges adapted to enter grooves along the sides of the harmonica.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a side view of the invention with the mouthpiece uncovered. Fig. 2 is an end View of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a View similar to Fig. 1 with the harmonica inclosed in the casing. Fig. 4c is an end View of Fig. 3.
The harmonica B has grooves b I) along its Serial No. 503,901. (No model.)
opposite sides near the mouthpiece, and in these the flanges a a, turned inwardly from the extension A of the inclosing casing A, are adapted to fit, as shown in Fig. 2, when the instrument is in use, that is, with the mouthpiece exposed.
In Figs. 3 andet the instrument is inclosed within the casing, and the mouthpiece fits snugly within the extension A, and the flanges 05 a tit closely over the mouthpiece, coming close together.
I claim- In combination with a harmonica having the grooves 19 b, the spring inclosing casing divided lengthwise and having an extension A along which the slit extends, substantially as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
. MAX DOERFEL.
