Description
FFICE.
? ATENT JOHN F. MARSDEN, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
COM BINED PEN WIPER AND RACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters'Patent No. 566,330, dated August 25, 1896.
Application filed February 21,1896. Serial No. 580,248. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Beit known that LJOHN F. MARSDEN,a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, State of Maryland, have invented a new and useful Combined Pen Wiper and Rack, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in combined pen wipers and racks.
The object of the present invention is to provide a simple and efficient pen wiper or cleaner and a rack adapted to support one or more pens while the same are in contact with the pen wiper or cleaner.
Another object of the invention is to provide a combined pen wiper and rack in which a pen may be readily placed, and which will support a pen in a convenient position, so that it may be readily obtained when desired.
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a combined pen wiper and rack constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view.
Like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in the figures of the drawings.
1 designates a cup or receptacle, preferably cylindrical, adapted to contain a brush 2,construoted of any suitable material, such as seagrass or the like, and arranged sufficiently loose within the cup or receptacle to permit the point of a pen to be readily embedded in it. The brush will enable a pen to be readily thrown into it without injuring the same, as it forms a cushion and serves to scrape ink from a pen and to convey liquid ink therefrom, so that a pen will be perfectly clean when removed.
The pens are supported in an inclined position when in the wiper by a rack 3,constructed of any suitable material, such as wire, sheet metal, or the like, and consisting of a frame 4 of circular or other shape, and provided at intervals with inwardly-extending tongues 5, forming pen-receiving spaces. The superimposed frame may be supported in its position above the pen-wiper by any suitable means, preferably vertical supports 6, secured at their upper terminals to the frame and supported by a zigzagly-arranged bracing-wire 7, consisting of a series of V-shaped portions, the sides of which extend downward from the frame at a point between the vertical support-s. The lower ends of the vertical supports are connected by a circular tie-wire 8, encircling the receptacle, passing through eyes 9 of the lower ends of the supports and securing the same to the receptacle.
The upper ends of the vertical supports are provided with eyes which receive the horizontal pen-supporting frame, and the fingers of the latter consist of loops preferably twisted adjacent to the horizontal frame or ring.
It will be seen that the pen wiper and rack present an ornamental and attractive appearance and that they form a convenient support for a pen and are adapted to clean the same thoroughly.
Changes in the form, proportion, and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention, such as constructing the pen-rack of any suitable material, such as sheet metal or the like.
What I claim is- 1. A combined pen rack and wiper comprising areceptacle adapted to contain a suitable material for cleaning a pen, and a frame supported above the receptacle, arranged horizontally and provided at intervals with inwardly-extending tongues forming pen-receiving spaces, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. A combined pen rack and wiper comprising a receptacle, a brush arranged within the receptacle, and a horizontally-disposed frame supported above the receptacle at the sides thereof and provided at intervals with inwardly-extending tongues forming pen-receiving spaces, substantially as described.
3. A combined pen wiper and rack comprising a receptacle, a frame arranged above the receptacle and provided at intervals with inwardly-extending tongues, supports located at the sides of the receptacle, secured thereto and supporting the frame, and braces connecting the supports and the frames, substantially as described.
4. A combined pen rack and wiper com- 10 sisting of a series of V- shaped portions connecting the horizontal frame and the supports, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as.
my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
JOHN F. MARSDEN.
Witnesses:
JOHN H. SIGGERS, HAROLD H. SIMMs.
