E. N, GUSSON. MACHINE FOR STAMPING CIGARS.
N0..565,632. I Patented Aug.11, 189 6..
A I WWW IIIIILIEIW/M W ZZvwl f UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDMOND NARCISSE CUSSON, OF MONTREAL, CANADA.
MACHINE FOR STAMPING CIGARS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 565,532, dated August 11, 1896.
Application filed March 19, 1896.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDMOND NARCISSE Ous- SON, a citizen of the Dominion of Canada, residing at the city and district of Montreal, in the Province of Quebec, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Machines for Stamping Cigars; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention is an improvement on a patent granted in the United States to myself and Louis Goullioud on April 16, 1895, under No. 537,565; and it consists in replacing the hollow casting supporting the die and having a circulation of water through it by means of a thin sheet-iron hood, as more fully explained hereinafter, its object being to do away with the circulation of water altogether, and thus not only reduce its cost, but simplify the apparatus considerably.
Referring to the drawings similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Figure 1 is a front view, Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section, and Fig. 3 is a cross-section, of my invention.
My invention consists in the two thin metallic hoods A and B. Intot-he one, A, is inserted two or more tubular vents a to carry off the heated air and products of combustion. These vents can be of any suitable length.
Inside of the main hood A is inserted the smaller perforated one, B, in the top of which Serial No. 583,954. (No model.)
is inserted the die 0, and which is placed directly over the gas-jet H, so as to directly receive and concentrate on the die 0 all the heat possible, and as it reaches a pretty high temperature it does not tend to diminish the temperature of the die 0, as is the case with the cooled casting that now exists.
The perforations I) allow the excess of heated air and products of combustion to escape into the hood A and thence through the vents a.
Of course, as the hoods A and B are very thin, and as the one, A, presents quite a large surface it never gets very hot, as it is continually cooled by radiation and by the vents a carrying away the hot gases. This hood A is secured to the table D by means of the thumbscrews 1, bolts J, and the metallic strip K, that passes right over the hoods A and B, it being slotted at L to allow the die 0 to pass through it.
Having described my invention, What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
In a machine for stamping cigars a thin metallic hood A having two or more Vents a and an'inner smaller perforated hood B, the whole surmounted by a metallic strip K serving to secure it to the table substantially as described and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EDMOND NARCISSE OUSSON.
