PLATFORM-SCALE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 565,122, dated August 4, 1896.
Serial No. 559,384. (No model.)
To aZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMAN SOI-IUSTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Silver Creek, in the county of Merrick and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Platform-Scales; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to platform-sca1es.
The object of the invention is to provide scales of this character which shall be simple of construction, durable in use, and comparatively inexpensive of production, and which will accurately weigh all things placed upon the platform at any point thereon.
With these objects in view the invention consists of certain features of construction and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a top plan view of my invention with the platform removed from the frame to clearly illustrate the parts. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional elevation of my improved scales. Fig. at is an under side view of my scales. Fig. 5 is a sectional detail view hereinafter referred to.
As my invention relates to the construction and arrangement of parts inclosed within the casing, it is thought unnecessary to describe the other parts of the scales. The description will therefore be restricted to the parts located within the platform-frame.
In the drawings, A denotes the platformframe, which may be of any suitable construction, but which is shown in the present in stance as rectangular in form.
B denotes the platform bearing beams, which are preferably V-shaped and which have their outer ends connected by links Z; to the platform-frame and which have their inner pointed ends provided with angular straps 1), formed with eyes Z7 connected together by a ring b 0 denotes two braces which are secured to the under sides of the beams B and which serve to strengthen the beams at that point.
D denotes castings which are secured to the bearing-beams and provided with knifesockets cl.
F denotes the draft-bar, which is connected at its rear end by pivoted links to the platform-frame, and which projects out throughan aperture in the front of the platform-frame and is adapted to be connected to the scalebeams in the usual or any approved manner.
G are the bearers, which are fixed to the ends of the stringers I, and which are provided with bearer-knives H, adapted to the sockets e of the casting D.
The stringers I I are adapted to support a platform.
Scales thus constructed may be placed upon the market at a small cost and are very durable and strong and will accurately weigh all matter placed upon the platform irrespective of the point at which it is placed.
I am aware that converging beams have been connected to a common center on the draft-bar, and such construction I do not broadly claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patcut, is
1. The combination with a platform-frame A, of the bearing-beams B, their rear diverging ends suspended by links I) to the frame A and their converging ends connected by an angular strap 1) having an eye 19 each pair connected together through the eyes 11 to a ring 13 suspended from the draft-bar F, and having the castings D, provided with the knife-edge sockets d, of the bearers G secured to one end of the stringers I, and having bearing-knives I'I, adapted to the sockets cl of the castings D, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. The combination with a platform-frame A, of the bearing-beams B, their rear divergin g ends suspended by links bfrom the frame A, and their converging ends connected by an angular strap 19 having an eye 11 each pair of beams being connected together through the eyes 19 of straps b, to a ring b suspended from the draft-bar F, and having the castings D provided with the knife-edge sockets d and the bearers G, having bearing-knives II and connected at their ends by the stringers I I, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I affiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HERMAN SOHUSTER. Witnesses:
L. M. SHAW, 1-1. L. GREGG.
