Description

J. I. VERCKLER. PLATFORM-SCALES.
No. 189,976. Patented AprilZh1877 r O .T. n e v n NPBERS. FHOTKLLITHOGRAPHER. WASMNGIQN. D G.
UNITED STATES PATENT CFFIGE.
JOSEPH J. VEROKLER, OF CHICO, CALIFORNIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN PLATFORM-SCALES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.1S9,976, dated April 24, 1877; application filed February 16, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JosEPE J. VERCKLER, of Chico, county of Butte, and State of California, have invented an Improvement in Weighing-Scales and I do herely declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being made to the accompanying drawings.
My first improvement in weighingscales consists in mounting the scales upon a small truck by means of an intervening turn-table, so that the scales can be swiveled around to any desired position in a circle without moving the truck upon which it is mounted.
My second improvement consists in the employment of upright standards or stakes on one end of the platform, so that sacks of grain or other like articles can be piled upon the platform without cross-piling, all as hereinafter described.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figures 1 and 2 are perspective views of my scale.
Let A represent a small truck upon which I construct a turn-table, B. G is the centerpin of this turn-table. Upon this truck I place the scales 0, so that the center-pin U will enter the bottom of the platform, while the scales rest upon the turn-table. By this means I can swivel the scales 7 around upon a center, so that its platform will be convenient to the material to be weighed without turning the truck, thus rendering the scales much more convenient.
Upon one end of the platform, preferably on the end nearest the scale-beam, I secure two upright stakes or standards, G G, one at each corner of the platform, which may be either permanent or removable. The scales must be adjusted to balance after standards are in place. By this means the sacks can be placed upon the platform in one direction, the stakes serving to prevent them from tumbling down. This is more convenient than cross piling, as the sacks can be piled from one position, and after the sacks are weighed the scale can be swiveled around, so that the sacks can be removed and placed out of the way without carrying them any great distance.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The truckA provided with the turn-table B, in combination with a weighing-scales, G substantially as and for scribed.
2. The stakes or standards G G, in combination with the platform of a weighing scale, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
7 the purpose de- JOSEPH J. VEBOKLER. [L. s.]
