Description

. R. BULLOCK.
' Cultivator.
No. 56,173. Patented July 10. 1866.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
IMPROVEM ENT IN CU LTIVATO RS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 56,173, dated July 10, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT BULLOCK, of South Mills, in the county of Camden, of the State of North Carolina, have invented a new and useful Improvement on a Plow for Weeding Oorn,0otton,or any'other Crops Sowed 0r Planted in Furrows or Drills; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear. and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which Figure l is a perspective view; Fig. 2, a longitudinal elevation; Fig. 3, a birds eye view; and Figs. 4 and 5, the front and reverse views of the weeding-shears, which have been removed from the stock.
At AA are holes through the stock, in which are to be adjusted the doweled part of the shears O G, which are secured by keys at a a, and braced by iron bolts starting from the center eyebolt under the stock at a and running to the fore end of the iron share at Y, and adjusted by the double nut, as at b b, the other rod running through the wooden land-side at G, in which position Fig. 3 represents the weeders from b to 01. These weeders may be changed into the holes B B, and then the iron plates are to be unscrewed at e and f and changed from right to left, so that they will be reversed in their action, and then the iron-rod braces must be shifted, so that the one fixed at Y will be fastened on the stock in the eyebolt at Z, the other bolt shifted from the hole at c to s.
The bull-tongues at the right and left side may be used to check off or removed if not wanted. The holes in the iron plates are so spaced as to admit of their being drawn in or out by the bolts 0 and f to widen the front. and with the play of the adjustable screws at b b, will give any opening required.
The plow is to be worked with double team. The hole at H is for the king-bolt of the single-tree bar, which is to be checked by proper chains. (Not represented in the drawings.)
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the stock with the weeding-shears, the iron-rod braces, the eye-holes, and iron bolts, when these several parts are arranged, constructed, and adjusted substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ROBERT BULLOCK.
