J. JAUGH.
AIR DISTRIBUTER FOR CENTRAL DRAFT LAMPS.
No. 561,321.- Patented June 2, 1896.
NITED STATES PATENT QFFICE,
JOSEPH JAUCI-I, OF MERIDEN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE BRADLEY & HUBBARD MFG. 00., OF SAME PLACE.
AIR-DISTRIBUTER FOR CENTRAL-DRAFT LAMPS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 561 ,321 dated June 2, 1896. Application filed February 10, 1896 Serial No. 578,629. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern: is not necessary. That portion of the body Be it known that I, JOSEPH J AUOH, of Meriof the distributer lying above the crown corden, in the county of New Haven and State responds in diameter, as shown, to its lower of Connecticut, haveinventedanewlmproveportion, and is formed with small perfora- 55 5 ment in AirDistributers for Oentral-Draft tions 1), which may vary in number and size, Lamps; and I do hereby declare the followas desired. The upper portion of the body of ing, when taken in connection with the acthe distributeris reduced to form an inwardlycompanying drawings and the letters of refextending shoulder 13 and an outwardlyerence marked thereon, to be a full, clear, turned retaining-flange B as shown in Fig. 60 yo and exact description of the same, and which 3. An annular horizontally-arranged deflecsaid drawings constitute part of this specifi tor C is supported upon the shoulder 13 aforecation, and represent, insaid, this deflector substantially correspond- Figure 1, a view in side elevation showing ing in diameter to the diameter of the crown one formwhich an air-distributer constructed A in its largest portion, and may be perfo- 65 r 5 in accordance with myinvention mayassume, rated or not, as desired. Above the said deand also showing one way in which it may be flector the distributer is furnished with ansupported in the draft-tube of a central-draft other deflector, which for convenience in. dislamp; Fig. 2, a view of the distributer and tinguishingbetween the two deflectors I shall tube in transverse section on the line a b of term a spreader. This is composed, as 70 20 Fig. 1; Fig. 3, an enlarged view in vertical shown, of a conical stepped and perforated central section of the distributer; Fig. 4, a capDandafunnel-shapedbodyD,the flangeview in side elevation of one of the modified like upper portion whereof is perforated and forms which my invention may assume. made sufflciently large to have the said cap My invention relates to an improvement in D applied to it. The lower edge of the body 7 5 2 5 air-distributers for central-draft lamps, the D of the said spreader is turned inward to object being to produceasimple and effective form a flange D which rests upon the inner distributer constructed with particular referedge of the upper face of the annular deflector ence to securing as complete a combustion of O. The retaining-flange B before mentioned the oil as is consistent with the production of is turned outwardly over the upper face of 8:

I do not, however, limit mytails of construction and combinations of self to constructing and assembling the disparts, as will be hereinafter described, and tributer as described, nor to employing either 8 5 5 pointed out in the claim. or both the deflector and spreader, as my in- In carrying out my invention, as shown in vention in its broad aspect resides in a dis- Figs. 1, 2, and 3 of the drawings, I form the tributer formed with a crown-like enlargedistributer with a crown-like enlargement, ment composed of parallel bars and larger in composed of a circular series of outwardly diameter in its largest portion than those poro 40 bowed or angled parallel bars A. These bars tions of the distributer lying immediately are located in vertical planes, but that is not above and below it, the bars of the said enimperative. The upper and lower ends of the largement being located in vertical planes and said bars merge into the cylindrical body B being bent midway of their length and sepaof the distributer with which they are formed a rated by unobstructed vertical air-passages. 5
5 integral, and which is of smaller diameter If desired, my improved distributer may both above and below the crown than the have the form shownin Fig. 4 of the drawings, largest diameter thereof. That portion of the in which that portion of the body E of the disbody located below the crown is furnished, as tributer lying above the crown E thereof is shown, withradialwingsB. Asrepresented, concaved, as at E and the body E of the I00 50 and preferably, these wings are made integral spreader of the distributer correspondingly with the body B of the distributer, but that concaved so as to form a long concaved line beginning with the cap of the spreader and terminating at the upper edge of the crown, this line being broken by the annular horizontally-arranged deflector E I do not limit myself to mounting the distributer in any particular manner; but, as shown in Fig. l of the drawings, I have represented it as being supported by its crown upon the upper edge of a central-draft tube F, with the walls of which the wings B engage so as to form steadiments for the distributer, which, if preferred, may be supported in any other way-as, for instance, by resting its lower end upon a bead formed within the draft-tube. I would therefore have it understood that I do not limit myself to the exact construction herein shown and described but hold myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of my invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A11 air-distributer for central-draft lamps, formed with a crown composed of parallel bars and larger in diameter in its largest part than those portions of the distributer lying immediately above and below it, the bars of the crown being located in corresponding planes and bent midway of their length and separated from each other by unobstructed air-passages, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
