Description

(KY0 Model.)
. P. W. NEFFLEN.
DRESS SHIELD PASTENBR. No. 561,125. Patented June 2, 1896,
WITNESSES: INVENTOR AN DREW EGRMIAM PHUTG-UTI'IQWASNINGTDMDQ 1 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. I
PAULINE IV. NEFFLEN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DRESS-SHIELD FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of LettersPatent No. 561,125, dated June 2, 1896. Application filed August '7, 1895. Serial No. 568,509. (No model.)
To all whom; it may concern.-
Be it known that I, PAULINE W. NEFFLEN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dress-Shield Fasteners, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to dress-shields, and the object thereof is to provide means for securing such devices in position, which consist of metal clamps or hooks and pins of a peculiar'and novel form and construction, and by means of which dress-shields may be conveniently secured in place whenever desired.
The invention is fully disclosed in the fol lowing specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which Figure 1 is a sectional view showing the method of securing a shield to a dress by means of my improved device; Fig. 2, a section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3, a side view of one of my improved hooks or clamps 5 Fig. 4, a top or plan view thereof; Fig. 5, a side View of a safety-pin which I also employ, and Fig. 6 a front or plan view thereof.
In the drawings forming part of this app1ication, A represents the sleeve=opening of, a dress, and B a shield connected with the lower side thereof. The upper portion of the shield B, or that portion thereof which is folded and curved to correspond with the sleeve-opening, as shown at O, is secured in place by means of flexible metal hooks, loops, or clamps D, provided with inwardly-directed points or projections E, which are adapted to be placed over the fold of the shield, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and to be pressed together, as shown in said last-mentioned figure, in which position the points or projections E will penetrate the material of the shield, the material d of the dress, and the material 61 of the sleeve, where these parts are united and securely hold the shield in place. The lower edge F of the shield-is secured in position by means of a safety-pin G, which is of the form shown in Figs. 5 and 6 and provided with a head 9, formed by folding the material thereof over, by which means a keeper or look for the point 9 is provided. The safety-pin G is preferably formed from sheet metal, and the shank thereof is folded at y and the operation thereof will be readily understood, it being connected with the material of the sleeve or of the body of the dress, as desired. Any desired number of the hooks or clamps D may be employed, and also of the safety-pins G, and it will thus be seen that I accomplish the object of my invention by means of devices simple in construction and operation, and which are comparatively inexpensive.
. My invention is not limited to the form and construction of the attaching devices shown and described, and I therefore reserve the right to make all such changes and alterationstherein as fairly come within the scope of the invention.
Having fully described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Pat ent-'- 1. A clip of non-elastic metal consisting of a narrow blank tapered to a point at each end, the central portion being curved and the points being turned back toward the central portion substantially as described.
2. A safety pin or clasp consisting of a long, fiat blank pointed at one end and having an integral car at one side of the opposite end, said blank being doubled near the middle, and said car being bent over to guard the pointed end, the two parts of the clasp being in close proximity, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presen cc of the subscribing witnesses, this 6th day of August, 1895.
