PORTABLE COOKING-STOVE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 560,445, dated May 19, 1896.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ALFRED SAVILL ToM- KINS, a citizen of England, residingat Holmwood, Caterham, London, in the county of 5 Surrey, England, have invented a new and useful Portable Cooking-Stove, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a cooking-stove made in parts which can be readily packed together in compact form for transport and can be readily and rapidly put together for use, as I shall describe, referring to the accompanying drawings. 1

Figurel is an outside view, and Fig. 2 is a I section, showing all the parts of the stove packed together for transport. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section, and Fig. 4 is a perspective view, of the parts put together for use.

There are two rectangular ovens A and B,

the larger A of such size that the smaller B can be packed within it. The oven A has at its one end a door 0, which is hinged at its upper edge, and the ovenB has a smaller door D, which is shown open in Fig. 4., At

the opposite end each oven has attached to it at its lower corner an angle-iron E, on which a fire-grate F is hung by hooks f entering holes in the angle-irons. The oven B also has pivoted on its front side and also on its 0 rear side at b a plate G, having at one of its upper angles a hook g, which can engage, in a staple on the upper angle at the front and rear sides of the'oven A. There are two rectangular boilers I and J of such size that J 3 5 can be packed Within I, and then 1, containing J, can be placed within the oven B. There are also four pans K L MN with sides slightly inclined, so that each can be inserted into one of the others, all when packed together 40 being accommodated in the ovenB along with the boiler land the fire-grate F, as shown in Fig. 2, the oven B having, when itis packed, its plates G turned upon their pivots b so as to cover the front and rear sides of B. 4 5 sides the oven B there are packed into A two plates 0 0, one for each of the ovens, to carry the pans.

In putting the parts together for use the ovens A and B are placed upon bricks or other accessible supports P, raising them a little from the ground, back to back, at such a distance apart as to admit of the fire-grate F- between them. The plates G are then turned upon their pivots b so as to close the two ends of the fire-space between the ovens, the hooks g of the plates G engaging in the staples atthe upper angles of the oven B, so that the two ovens are held together by the hooks 9 above and the hooks f of the firegrate below. The boilers I and J can then be placed on the tops of the ovens at a distance apart to leave between them a space for ascent of the products of combustion. "The plates 0 O are placed on angle-irons B R, projecting internally at the sides of the ovens. The pans K and L are placed on the floors of the ovens and M and N on the plates 0 O. The ends of the ovens A B are not quite vertical, but inclined in such a manner that when the doors 0 andD are closed they bear with a little weight against the ends, and they are held closed by fastenings c and d. The oven A may have at its angles on opposite sides staples S, so that two sets of ovens can be strapped together and loaded astraddle on a beast of burden.

Having thus described the nature of my invention and the best means I know for'earrying the same into practical effect, I claim- 1. A knockdown and portable cookingstove, consisting of a pair of ovens one relatively smaller than and adapted to be placed within the other for transportation, the smaller oven being provided with plates on its sides, which plates are adapted to be connected to the sides of the other oven, when the ovens are placed side by side, to form a fire-chamber between the ovens, substantially as described.

The combination of a pair of ovens, provided with racks on their rear sides, and a detachable fire-grate adapted to be placed on and supported by said racks when the ovens are placed back to back; with adjustable plates adapted to close the spaces between the ovens at the ends of the grate, substantially as and for the purpose described.
