HAMMOCK-SPREADER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 560,285, dated May 19, 1896.

Beit known that LWILLIAM H. SHETTEELY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kalamazoo, in the county of Kalamazoo, State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Hammock-Spreader, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to hammock-spreaders which are made in detachable sections; and it has for its object an improved coupling for the purpose substantially as below described and claimed.
In the drawing forming a part of this specification is shown an elevation of the coupling, a portion being in section and the outer end of the spreader-sticks being broken off.
The coupling for detachably attaching the sticks A (shown at D) is made of metal and in two parts. It is tubular in form and preferably made on a longitudinal curve corresponding to the curve of the hamm ook-sticks A. The part L has a core in one end to receive the end of one of the sticks A, in which it is rigidly attached at I, and the other end P is tapered. The other part E of the coupling is provided with a core in each end, one of which is funnel form or internally tapered to detachably receive the tapered end P of Serial No. 551,863. (No model.)

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
In a hammock-spreader, the metal coupling composed of two metal parts, each part cored out in its outer end to receive the hammocksticks, one of said metal parts having its inner end tapered, and the other part having a funn el-shapedl core in its inner end to receive the inner end of the other part, and both parts being rigidly attached to their respective hammock-sticks, substantially as set forth.
