Be it known that I, RICHARD A. AN'rnonY, a

citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a certain new ang useful Improved Photographic Fabrie, of which the following is a specification.-

, My invention relates to animproved photoconstruction thereof hereinafter described.-

lleretoforc photographs have been usually, or at least frequently, mounted upon a back ing of muslin or like material in order to preservethem or that they maybe sufficiently flexible to be rolled up for convenient stor-v age and transportation, and also in order that they may be bound into books or folios for the use of commercial travelers andbe compact and relatively light. The time and care required to properly mount such photographs upon the said backing material very consid erably adds to their expense, and also the operation of mounting photographs is. such that occasionally they are injured in the process, especially as the filmsare made very-delicate and fragile, by reason of the wetting to which they are subjected during the developin g process.

By my invention obviatethe above diffi culties and produce a product very useful for the purpose.

In the drawing hereof I illustrate one form of my invention only.

A is the backing or support for the film. In order that it may be flexible, strong, and light in weight, so as to adapt it to its individual use, I prefer to employ muslin, linen,

silk, or'simila'r cloth-like fabric.

I In order to provide a suitable surface upon which the sensitized coating may be applied, I cement or otherwise attach to the cloth A ashect of paper B, which may be in the form of photographic or other suitable paper. The cemcn t or other adhesive material used should be waterproof, a medium thin solution of rubber or a solution of gelatin in water, to which has been added the proper amount of tannic acid or chrome-alum to render the same insoluble when dry, or any other suitable adhesive material may be used, and to increase its pliability when dry g1 yccrin may be added;

h Upon the panerd deposit a layer or coating gelatin, glue, &c and when this coating is dry it may or may not be calendered, and

' upon this surface I-deposit the sensitive coatlent material may be used. It is not always necessary to use this barium sulfate or similar coating between the paper and the sensitized coating. On the contrary, the sensitized coating may be deposited directly upon the paper.

By my invention it-will be observed that the film is mounted during the process of manujfacture, and is presentedto the trade in a completed condition. Thus the laborand expense of mounting the photographs, after exposure, upon. the cloth or' similar backing is avoided also, considerable waste of material is avoided, because, my product-being usually made in the roll, such sized pieces may be cut therefrom as may be required by the photographers, and thereis no loss either of the paper or of the cloth, as is almost invariably the case in the present practice; also, myimproved fabric in practical use avoids the destruction of a great many pietures, which might otherwise occur during the mounting process.

I furnish to this art a strong, durable, flexible, sensitized fabric convenient in use,- ca

pable' of resisting tearing'and puncturing strains which are-very apt to occur during the developing or toning process, free from distortion by reason of the swelling of the paper, and practically adapted for photog' raphers use for commercial purposes-i. a, representations of goods, 850., which are apt to be extensively handled and treated in a relatively ro ugh manner.

I claim ;1. As a new article of manufacture, a flexible sensitized photographic fabric composed of a muslin or similar backing, attached to a paper-surfacing sheet, and a sensitized coat ing on the face of the paper, for the purposes set forth.

' 2. As a new article of manufacture, a flexible, sensitized photographic fabric-composed of a muslin or similar backing'attached to a paper-surfacing sheet, a coating of barium sulfate or similar material upon the paper and a sensitized coating on the surface of said last-named coating, for the purposes set forth.

As a new article of manufacturea flexible sensitized photographic fabric, composed of a cloth backing attached by waterproofed cementing material to a paper surfacing sheet, the cloth being sufiicient to control the expansion and contraction of the paper, and a sensitized coating on the face of the paper, for the purposes set forth. 7

4. As a new article of manufacture, a flexible, sensitized photographic fabric, composed of a cloth backing attached to a paper-surfacing sheet bywaterproofed adhesive material, the cloth being sufiicientj to control the v the surface of the last-named coating, for the purposes set forth. 7 v
