UNITE STATES PAT NT OFFICE ALBERT CLOSE JONES, OF PATERSON, NEW JERSEY.
CU RTAlN-FIXTU RE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 558,077, dated April 14, 1896. Application filed June 25, 1896. Serial No. 553,990. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALBERT CLosE JONES, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Paterson, county of Passaic, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Fixtures, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to curtain-fixtures, and the object thereof is to produce an improved device of this class consisting of a pole or support so constructed and arranged that a curtain, portiere, or similar article may be connected therewith by means of springoperated clamps which hold the curtain or other article in direct contact with the pole or support.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, and in which- Figure 1 is a front View of my improved pole in position and ready for use; Fig. 2, a top or plan view thereof.
In the practice of my invention I employ a pole or bar A of any desired length and formed of any desired material, wood being preferred, and a similar pole or bar B, also formed of any desired material, but prefer ably of the same form as the pole or bar A, and these poles or bars A and B are secured in position and at a predetermined distance apart by means of end plates 0, to which are secured ornamental balls or end pieces D.
Passing through the front bar 13 at regular intervals are bolts E, provided with heads F, through which are passed or with which are connected rings G, and the inner ends of said bolts are provided with end plates H, and between the end plates H and the front bar 13 are arranged springs K, which are preferably spiral springs mounted on said bolts, as shown at the right-hand side of Fig. 2, or which may be ordinary plate-springs, the ends of which are secured to the front bar, and through the middle of which is passed the bolt E, as shown at the left-hand side of said Fl 2.
The operation of this form of construction will be readily understood from the foregoing description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings. In securing a curtain, portiere, or other article to my improved pole or support the end of said ourtain, portiere, or other article is attached to or held in contact with the pole or bar A by the end plates H of the bolts E, said plates being withdrawn from contact with said bar or pole A by rings G, connected with the heads F of the bolts E, as will be readily understood,
after which the curtain or other article is inserted between said end plates H and the bar or pole A, where it will be securely held by the springs K, as will be readily understood. Having fully described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. Asupport for a curtain, port-iere or other article, consisting of a bar or pole, a similar bar or pole connected therewith by means of end plates in such manner that a narrow space is provided between said bars or poles, and bolts passing through one of said bars or poles and provided with end plates and springs connected therewith adapted to force said end plates in contact with one of said bars or poles, substantially as shown and described. 2. A support for a curtain, portiere or other article consisting of a bar or pole, a similar bar or pole connected therewith by means of end plates in such manner that a narrow space is provided between said bars or poles, bolts passing through one of said bars or poles and provided with end plates and springs connectedtherewith adapted to force said end plates in contact with one of said bars or poles, said bolts being also provided with heads on the outer ends with which are connected rings by which the bolts are operated, substantially as shown and described. 3. In a curtain fixture the combination with a back bar or pole of a front bar or pole connected therewith by means of end pieces in such manner that a narrow space is provided between said bars r poles, sliding bolts which pass through ,sai front bar or pole each of which is provided with heads to which is secured a ring byf'which said bolts are operated the inner ends of said bolts being also ence of the subscribing witnesses, this 17th provided With end plates, anda spring adaptday of June, 1895. ed to force the end plates against the back bar or pole, substantially as shown and de- 5 scribed. Vitnesses:
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as ALBERT JONES, my invention I have signed my name, in pres- CORNELIUS P. VAN TRU EN.
ALBERT CLOSE JONES.
