A. VON OL'EKIEVIGZ.
DEVICE FOR, LIFTING RAILWAY METALS. v No. 557,146. Patented Mar. 31,1896} ANDREW EXERMMM. PHDTO-UTNUWASHINGTUND C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANTON VON OLEKIEVIOZ, OF JASCH-UNY, WVARSAIV, RUSSIA.
DEVICE FOR LIFTING RAILWAY METALS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 557,146, dated March 31, 1896. Application filed July 7, 1894. Serial No. 516,859. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, ANTON VON OLEKIEVICZ, technician, of J asch-uny, Warsaw, in the Empire of Russia, have invented new and useful Improvements in a Device for Lifting Railway Metals, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a device for expeditiously and with facility lifting up railway metals when replacing or rearranging sleepers.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of the apparatus. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
The arrangement is in the main as follows: A U-shaped support a has at each end a nut I) screwed thereto. In these nuts I) operate spindles cl of high pitch with double fiat threading, having at their upper ends handles 0 and at their bottom ends plates f, in which the spindles turn loosely, while suitably-sized wooden boards g, fixed to said plates, serve to the whole as bearings or supports during use. To protect the latter from moving or turning while the spindles are in operation and prevent these from going down during the conveyance of the apparatus, bars h, provided at the supporting-plates, are adapted to be fixed with hooks to the side of the support above referred to. Special handles 2' are provided for conveying the apparatus and for facilitating the raising thereof when operating, the spindles being then surrounded with "i. e., protected from dust or sand by-a sack or covering of water-tight linen or other suitable material. To one end of the support is rigidly fixed a rail-hook it, while at the other end a like hook Z is revolubly attached, which carries a handle for this purpose.v
The apparatus is placed by means of the handles t' perpendicularly to the rails and put with the longitudinal head of the fixed hook it under the rail. Subsequently the head of the revoluble hook Z is placed by means of its handle underneath the opposite rail, and then the spindles are operated by their handles e, thus raising the metals sufficiently to do the necessary work.
The first rail is raised in the manner described above, while the second is adjusted by aid of a water-posse, the bearing plates or boards being disconnected from the support prior to the commencement of the operation of the screws.
Having now described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
An apparatus for lifting rails, marked by a U-beam a one end of which is provided with a rigidly-fixed hook-screw 70 while the other one, bears a similar hook Zrevoluble round its own center line, which U-beam a, hooks It I and rails are raised by means of a pair of double and square threaded spindles d cl loosely revoluble in suitable-sized plates f and boards g.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ANTON VON OLEKIEVICZ.
\Vitnesses ANTONI GORSKI, J ULJAN GIELDZINsKI.
