Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN H. MCGINTY, OF MANSFIELD, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF TWO-THIRDS TO WVILLIAM J. HOLWVAY, ROBERT LOWE, AND FREDERICK MCKEE, OF
IVASHINGTON, PENNSYLVANIA.
OIL-CAN.
I SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 557,082, dated March 24, 1896.
A li ti fil d September 25, 1895. Serial No. 563,573- (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN H. MCGINTY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mansfield, in the county of Richland and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oil-Can Spouts; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and
exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which forms a part of this specification.
The invention relates to the spouts of oilcans which are liable to get choked at the outlet; and the invention consists in the means employed to unchoke them.
The drawing is a vertical diametrical section of an oil-can, showing my improvements.
In the drawing, A represents the can; B, its spout, tapered upwardly, while its bottom is provided with the exterior flange b; O, a spiral spring in a cage 6 of the hollow screwstopper E, and D is the wire by which obstructions at the outlet 12 may be ejected. This wire is fast in the bottom of the cage 6, open at the sides, in which the spout B is movable up and down on the spring 0, which holds the flange 5 against an interior screwshoulder a. By pressing down the fast spoutcollar 1) the wire D is projected at the top through the outlet b, so as to relieve it of any stoppage in a moment.
Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understanding of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-
1. A11 oil-can having a spout with exterior flange at bottom, a screw-stopper with a cage 6 and having an interior shoulder against which the flange is held and a fixed central cleaning-wire fast to said cage and extending nearly to the top of spout as and for the purpose described.
2. In an oil-can, the combination of a screwstopper with cage e, an oil-spout, a spring in the cage and a central wire fixed to the cage, the spout being movable up and down over the Wire to clean out the end of spout as set forth.
In testimony whereof I afix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN H. MOGINTY.
