ANDREW ISIAHAM.PHUTOUTHQWASMINGIUNL.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
NATIIANIEL J. T. IOIVERS, OF II-IITESBOROUGII, TEXAS.
POT HANGER OR HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent NO. 556,770, dated March 24, 1896.
Application tiled October 4, 1895. Serial No. 564,629. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, NATHANIEL J. T. Poiv- Ens, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vhitesborough, in the county of Grayson and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pot IIangers or Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled iu the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in pot or boiler hangers; and the 'object of my invention is the provision of an extremely simple and inexpensive device which is especially adapted for supporting a boiler or pot above a lire.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a device of the character named which will be light and thus be capable of easy and ready transportation and which will be very durable, thus providing a practical and useful device for the intended purpose.
Another obj ect of my invention is the provision of a device for the purpose named which will be compact and which will permit of the pot or boiler being quickly and easily adjusted with reference to the fire thereunder, as circumstances require.
To a-ttain the desired objects my invention consists of a boiler or pot hanger embodying novel and improved features of construction, substantially as disclosed herein.
Figure l represents a perspective view of a pot or boiler hanger embodying my invention in position for use. Fig. 2 represents a view of a somewhat modified form, and Fig. 3 represents a similar view of another modification.
My device is of very simple construction; and it consists of the uprights or standards A, having the upper ends formed with handles B for ready transportation and having their lower ends curved outward to form the supporting-legs C, and these uprights are provided with a series of vertically-disposed openings D, in which iit and are adjustable the hooks or supports E, which engage the usual bails or handles on a pot or boiler or any other vessel to hold the same at the desired distance above the tire, as clearly seen in Fig. l. Secured to the supporting-legs of the uprights at the bend thereof are the curved supporting-legs F, which rest on the ground on each side of the other supporting-leg and at a right angle with reference thereto and thus form a iirm and reliable support for thc device.
In Fig. 2 I form the uprights at the terminals of their legs With the supplemental strips G, which are secured together at H and form a steadying device for the uprights, which is also adjustable by reason of the openings .I in the strips, any of which may be engaged by the fastening H.
In Fig. 3 I provide the uprights with a channel K, in which are adapted to move the strips L, having the hook M to engage the bail of the pot and further provided with a handle N, and these plates are held at any adjustment by means of the binding-screws 0.
If desired, each member of the device may be stamped from a single piece of metal, and this would materially lessen the cost of the device.
If desired to use a steadying means for the uprights, the legs may be secured to the ground by placing a stone thereon.
It is evident from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings, that I provide a compact, portable and inexpensive device which is thoroughly practical for the intended purpose.
I claiml. A pot or boiler hanger, comprising two members each consisting of an upright having a handle at its upper end, a series of supporting-legs carried by or formed integral with each upright, said supporting-legs forming a tripod at the lower end of the uprights, and adjustable pot hanging or supporting devices connected to said uprights.
2. A pot or boiler hanger, consisting of the uprights, the supporting-legs formed integral with the uprights, the adjustable steadyingplates formed on said legs, and the supporting-legs connected to the supporting-legs of the uprights and arranged at a right angle thereto.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
NATIIANIEL J. T. POVERS.
