SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 556,728, dated March 24, 1896.

Be it known that I, LOUIS W. BALDWIN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bouquetllolders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanyin gdrawin gs, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.

This invention relates to holders for bouquets or flowers, and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which is simple in construction and operation and which is adapted to be connected with the lapel of a coat or other article of dress; and with this and other objects in view the invention consists in the device constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompa nying drawings form a part, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a coat provided with my improvement; Fig. 2, a similar view with the lapel of the coat folded forward; Fig. 3, a back view of the holder, and Fig. 4. a sectional view showing the method of connecting the same with the coat and also the method of connecting the bouquet or flower therewith.

In the drawings forming part of this specification, A represents a coat provided with a lapel a, in which the usual buttonholes are formed, and in the practice of my invention I provide a holder for a bouquet or flower, consisting of a plate B, which is adapted to be placed upon the back of the lapel of the coat, and with the upper end of which is connected a short tube D, which is adapted to be passed through a buttonhole, and the outer end of which is provided with a rim or flange (Z. The tube D extends through the plate 13 and may be secured thereto in any desired manner, and formed on or secured to the lower end of said plate is a spring-loop G, the sides of which are brought together and formed into spiral coils and secured to the plate, as shown at g, and the operation will be readily understood from the foregoing description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.

The bouquet or flower is shown at II, and in operation the stem h thereof is passed through the tube 13 from the front and then carried backward and passed through the spring-loop G, the end of which is raised to admit it, and by means of this operation the bouquet or flower will be securely held in position, as will be readily understood.

In the normal position of the spring-loop G it presses upon the plate B, and when it is raised in order that the stem hmaybe passed therethrough it will spring back again when released and securely hold said stem, and it will thus be seen that I accomplish the object of my invention by means of a device which is simple in construction and operation and comparatively inexpensive, while being also well adapted to produce the result for which it is intended.

My invention is not limited to the exact form, construction and arrangement of parts herein described, and I therefore reserve the right to make all such alterations therein and modifications thereof as fairly come within the scope of the invention.

hat is claimed as new is- 1. A bouquet or flower holder for the lapel of a coat or other garment, comprising a short tube which is adapted to be passed through the buttonhole, a plate connected with the end thereof at the inner side of the lapel, and means connected with said plate for holding the stem of the bouquet or flower when it is inserted through said tube, substantially as shown and described.

2. A bouquet or flower holder for the lapel of a coat or other garment, comprising a short tube which is adapted to be passed through the buttonhole, a plate connected with the end thereof at the inner side of the lapel, and means connected with said plate for holding the stem of the bouquet or flower when it is inserted through said tube, consisting of a spring-loop which is secured to said plate, substantially as shown and described.

3. A bouquet or flower holder for the lapel of a coat, consisting of a short tube which is adapted to be passed through a but-tonhole through which the stem of the bouquet or flower may be passed, and means connected with said tube at the inner side of the lapel for holding the stem of the bouquet or flower,
